The Opportunity:
We are seeking a TO3 Technical Officer to join our client within the Chemistry Centre for Soil and Catchment Science at the QLD Department of Environment, Science and Innovation. Based at the Eco sciences Precinct in Dutton Park, Brisbane, this role involves conducting high-quality chemical analyses, maintaining major instruments, developing analytical methods and preparing analytical reports. The Technical Officer will also supervise and train staff, ensuring adherence to NATA Quality Assurance and Workplace Health and Safety protocols.
- Conduct chemical analyses on diverse sample types;
- Operate and maintain major analytical instruments;
- Develop and document analytical chemistry methods;
- Prepare analytical reports and interpret data; and
- Supervise and train laboratory staff.
Required Experience:
- The ideal candidate will have a strong background in scientific research and laboratory work, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to work collaboratively within a team;
- Demonstrated expertise in analytical chemistry procedures pertaining to the assessment of Soil, water, plants and sediment samples in a NATA accredited laboratory (experience gained in commercial analytical laboratory is advantageous);
- Demonstrated experience in operating analytical instruments (such as ICPOES, continuous flow analysers, spectrometers and Carbon / nitrogen analysers) with high competency in sample preparations, troubleshooting and fault-finding;
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently in a team environment and to contribute to maintaining a high quality, timely and efficient laboratory operations; and
- Good communication, interpersonal and organisational skills with ability to follow work plans and see tasks through to completion. Demonstrated experience in the use of databases as well as laboratory information Management System, statistical and word-processing software.
