About the role

We are currently looking for Tailings Analyst to join our Process Engineering & Major Hazards team. Working within a close-knit internal network of tailings professionals and industry experts, you will be responsible for providing technical and operational support to project and site teams ensuring the safe and efficient operation of tailings and water storage facilities. You will collaborate with site leadership and other technical teams to ensure tailings storage facility integrity is maintained and the operations of tailings storage facilities is in accordance with the design intent and operational plan.

This role is a great opportunity to contribute to the successful stewardship of a significant portfolio of tailings and water storage facilities and work across a large business whilst extending your professional development and experience. 

Reporting to the Manager Tailings & Dams, you will: 

  • Develop and maintain standardised tailings storage plans at all operational and future sites from short term (quarterly) to long term (life of mine) time horizons
  • Develop and maintain opex budgets for operating tailings facilities
  • Undertake storage capacity modelling, including deposition and water balance software
  • Coordination of assurance for dam safety governance and maintenance activities
  • Development of periodic tailings reports, including ownership of the internal digital dashboard

About You

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor of engineering (Civil) or engineering geology degree
  • Previous professional experience with design and, preferably, operation of tailings storage facilities and dams
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently achieve safety and operational outcomes and delivery of targets
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and management skills
  • Excellent communication skills

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • An understanding of dam safe dam operation
  • Previous experience in a planning role in a mining environment
  • An awareness of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) and national/international guidelines (ANCOLD, ICOLD, MAC, CDA, USBR)
  • Exposure to risk assessment and risk management of dams
