Summer Hill Tax & Accounting is small, modern, boutique accounting firm located in the inner west suburb of Summer Hill. We are a paperless office looking for an enthusiastic tax/accounting assistant for a remote six-month contractual role 10 -15 hours per week with the potential to progress to a long-term role. The successful candidate will be required to sign employment, confidentiality, and non-solicitation agreements.
Qualifications & experience
- At least 2 years of experience conducting appointments with clients to prepare and complete income tax returns.
- At least 3 years of income tax & business activity statement preparation experience
- Thorough understanding & practical experience of the Australian tax system & taxation law
- Thorough understanding of payroll & STP
- In depth XERO Accounting software experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
- A team player with the ability to work autonomously
- Adaptable to technological change
- Fluent in English
- Excellent Communication
- Must have a high speed internet connection, laptop & phone provided for duration of employment.
- Must be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia with rights to work in Australia (Please include this in your cover letter)
- Previous experience with Quickbooks online, Keypay, Rounded, HubDoc, Saasu & Reckon highly regarded
Tasks & responsibilities
- Assisting with the preparation of documents such as tax returns, BAS & IAS
- Conducting client appointments to prepare and complete tax returns.
- Bookkeeping for clients.
- Process payroll & prepare STP lodgements for review on behalf of clients
- Complex ATO calls such as registration or legal advice enquiries
- Emailing clients regarding their tax affairs
- Adding client information to tax returns that was not provided at the time of appointment.
- Ability to prioritise and self manage time frames
