Champion Bay Senior High School (SHS) is an Independent Public School (IPS) seeking to appoint a passionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) Teacher to join our friendly school.

Teachers and school administrators employed at Champion Bay Senior High School in 2024 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $5,000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.  

The ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.

Champion Bay SHS is a comprehensive Years 7-12 school. Therefore, it is desirable (but not essential) that applicants have the necessary knowledge and desire to teach Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) courses from the HASS area in the near future. The school also has a selective Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program drawing students from across the region.

The successful applicant for this position should be student and relationship focused, innovative and motivated, with the ability to work collaboratively in team environments. You should possess the professional knowledge, understandings and experience to develop and implement an engaging and relevant secondary school HASS curriculum. Ideally, as an expert practitioner you should possess a commitment to excellence in teaching and engage in regular self-reflection.

Teachers at Champion Bay SHS are expected to provide integrated, personalised and authentic learning experiences for students. You will ideally have knowledge of high impact teaching strategies, formative assessment, CMS approaches in building positive relationships and engaging families in their child’s learning. As a teacher at our school, you should be committed to helping to develop and implement our school wide pedagogical framework.

The school has a strong Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) focus, working in a collaborative partnership with local primary schools, industry and tertiary education. The successful applicant will ideally possess the ability to develop innovative classroom practices utilising the school’s Information Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure and embed 21st Century Skills within their teaching and learning.

Champion Bay SHS is a vibrant and innovative college committed to the delivery of high quality teaching, strong pastoral care and success for all students.

Champion Bay SHS located in Geraldton, opened in 2019 and caters for students in Year 7 to 12 in 2024. We are currently a partner in the Geraldton Lighthouse Program, a program developing and implementing best practice for students with autism.

The Location and Community

The City of Greater Geraldton (CGG) is one of 9 regions of WA and has much to offer in terms of sport, culture and tourism. With a population of approximately 40,000, the CGG covers an area of approximately 472,000 square kilometres and includes the towns of Mullewa and Walkaway. Apart from the significant sporting and cultural activities on offer, Geraldton itself is renowned for its quality lifestyle. Geraldton is the centre of the WA rock lobster industry along with the productive agricultural region that extends to the north, south and east of the city. An important part of the town is the Geraldton Port Authority which is responsible for moving a significant variety of produce such as grain, mineral sands, iron ore and other goods. During the wildflower season, the outlying areas of Geraldton are renowned for their stunning wildflowers.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:

  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
  • Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
  • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
