This is a permanent part-time (0.8FTE) position commencing Term 3, 2024

Girrawheen Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and dedicated Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) teacher to join their team.

Ideally, this position requires a teacher who has excellent interpersonal skills and can foster positive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders including students, staff, and community members. The successful applicant will ideally have the professional knowledge, understanding and experience to deliver an engaging and relevant secondary HASS curriculum from the early and middle adolescent phases of learning through to senior secondary courses. The ability to teach across other learning areas would be advantageous.

The learning environment you create should be differentiated, challenging, caring and creative, while catering for a range of needs that sees all students progressing and achieving. Additionally, successful applicants should be able to utilise evidence-based teaching practices whilst employing a range of assessment and reporting methods.

You will ideally support the implementation of the school business plan, work and teach in a team environment, and be committed to whole school approaches and initiatives. Building and maintaining a positive learning environment and effective classroom management is critical to this role.

Girrawheen SHS teaching staff includes the 2021 WA Premier's Secondary Teacher of the Year, Charan Pabla, who works within the Science learning area.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
