Job description

Are you wanting to harness your passion as a teacher to create a meaningful impact? Do you possess
knowledge of the curriculum to tailor engaging learning experiences? Are you adept at fostering student-centred learning environments? An exciting opportunity awaits on the stunning coast of the Pilbara for both primary and secondary teachers.

Situated along the West Pilbara coast on Ngarluma country, a primary and secondary position is currently available! Use your passion as a skilled educator to enhance literacy and numeracy outcomes for every child, every day, through a whole school approach of explicit teaching and instructional strategies. Catering to students from Kindergarten to Year 12, the students predominantly come from three primary language groups - the Ngarluma people who are the traditional owners of the land, the Yindjibarndi people and the Banyjima people.

As the secondary (Advisory) teacher you will work within a supportive learning community to assist students to become responsible and active members of the community, through a strong focus on the principles of the Big Picture Design for education. You will be an Advisory teacher who is committed to helping each student believe that they matter, who acknowledges and values their students’ culture, talents, and interests and who can work with others to identify, understand, and respond to individual needs.

The secondary Advisory teacher’s role is to teach, inspire, coordinate, organise and manage learning. You will balance explicit teaching with a project-based learning approach and work to engage students in learning through Internships in the community and beyond. The Year 7-8 class is a small community (approx. 17 students) within the school. As part of the Advisory staff (teachers, AIEOs and EAs) you will work each day to build relationships of trust, respect and care between the students, staff, families, and the community. You will support students to explore interests, develop extended projects and present their learning through exhibitions each term. Be ready to form strong, respectful relationship with your students and families as you seek to engage your students through a student-centred approach. You will convene meetings with students, parents and mentors to develop and negotiate personalised learning plans, where the student’s interests and strengths are central to their learning. You will be responsible for student learning across the curriculum, including literacy and numeracy. The school has a clear focus on preparing our young people for their pathways into training, further education or employment post-secondary school. Primary trained teachers are welcome to apply.

As the primary teacher, you will demonstrate a passion for teaching and a strong commitment to enhancing literacy and numeracy outcomes for all students, alongside effectively implementing school-wide approaches. Emphasising cultural responsiveness, you will actively foster positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the wider community. Your excellent understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum will enable you to plan differentiated and engaging programs. You will be committed to ongoing professional growth and development and support current school-wide processes. Joining a collaborative school environment, your adeptness in working within a team setting will be valued. Experience with Teaching for Impact, Berry Street Education Model, MultiLit, and/or Living STEM is highly desirable. There are small class sizes which enable teachers to build strong relationships with their students.

The western coast of the Pilbara offers a range of attractions including Millstream Chichester National Park with its picturesque landscapes and opportunities for camping, bushwalking, and wildlife spotting. Off the coast, the Dampier Archipelago has pristine beaches, coral reefs, and popular activities like fishing, snorkelling, and boating. On the Burrup Peninsula, also known as Murujuga, visitors can explore one of the world's largest collections of Aboriginal rock art through guided tours. There are boating and fishing adventures to be had along the coast as well.

This primary position is a twelve (12) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 2, 2024 with possible extension (12 months) and/or permanency. Shorter term placements may be considered.
