Our client is seeking a Payroll Team Leader to join their team to manage and coordinate the administration and processing of the fortnightly payroll system in accordance with the client's policies and procedures. In this role, the successful candidate will co-ordinate, maintain, update, and establish payroll policies and procedures, and implement the continuous improvement of the payroll system.
Reporting to Management Accountant, this position involves managing various aspects of payroll processing for our client's employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal and organizational policies. Duties include handling timesheets, calculating and processing payments for leave and terminations, implementing award variations, maintaining personnel records, and managing taxation and superannuation matters. The role also involves overseeing system security, providing training to users, implementing system modifications, and ensuring continual improvement of the payroll database. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for staff coordination, providing leadership, support, and training to the payroll unit, and facilitating effective communication with relevant departments. You will also supervise payroll officers.
The successful candidate will have a tertiary qualification in Accounting, Management, or a related field with extensive payroll experience, including superannuation administration, preferably with Local Government Superannuation. Proven track record in payroll management, staff supervision, and motivation. Strong understanding of Awards and Industrial legislation in Local Government. Demonstrated project management skills. High-level conceptual and analytical skills for strategic thinking and practical problem-solving. Proficient in SAP and computerized payroll systems, Word, Excel, and Outlook. Effective communication across all organizational levels. Strong written, reporting, and analytical skills. Experience in implementing new systems and policies relevant to payroll.
