About the Company
The Department of Communities and Justice delivers legal, court and supervision services to the people of NSW by managing courts and justice services, implementing programs to reduce crime and re offending, managing custodial and community-based correctional services, protecting rights and community standards, and advising on law reform and legal matters.
Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) delivers professional correctional services and programs to reduce the risk of re-offending and enhance public safety. It serves a key function of the NSW Communities and Justice Sector by providing effective, safe and humane management of offenders both in custody and in the community CSNSW also works in partnership with other government and community agencies to ensure that offenders and their families are supported.
About Us
The Victims Register and Restorative Justice Unit is a victim-centred unit within Corrective Services. The Unit provides services to victims after an offender has been sentenced. After sentencing, victims of crime are eligible to opt in to the CSNSW Victims Register to receive information and support to eligible victims of offenders that are serving a custodial sentence in NSW. Victims can also engage in Restorative Justice, which gives them the opportunity to communicate with the offender about the offence and its impact on the victim.
About the role:
Supervise a team of Victims Register Officers in the day-to-day operations.
The role supports the team to provide information, assistance, and support to registered victims in a timely way and ensures all communication with victims occurs in a respectful, sensitive and trauma informed manner that upholds the Charter of Victim’s Rights.
The position is responsible for ensuring that the team operate in accordance with legislation and policies and procedures relevant to the Victims Register and oversees quality assurance measures.
Essential Requirements
Experience in working with victims of crime.
Self-motivated compassionate employee, who has the skills and work experience in dealing with complex trauma.
Strong communication and written skills.
Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel.
Willingness to participate in a roster to maintain phone coverage for the Victims Register during business hours.
