Our energy team have many years of experience connecting generation to customers, with projects ranging from OE roles, lenders technical advisors to detailed substation and transmission and design services.
We are excited to build the Transmission and Distribution team in Australia to support the energy transition locally, and globally. We are seeking a Technical Director to join our team working on National and International projects, including offshore wind substations for our neighbours across Asia.

The Opportunity
Due to an ever-growing portfolio of projects, we are looking for a senior T&D professional to contribute to the success of our growing team. This opportunity is available in our Brisbane office.
The focus of your role will be to provide electrical engineering development and design solutions across a range of multi-disciplinary projects and pursuits. You will lead, manage, or undertake design development for engineering projects and packages as well as:
- Provide specialist technical input to a diverse range of projects in line with Mott MacDonald's quality system and client requirements.
- Development of the design of the HV substation and transmission system
- Be part of the team to pursue, develop and deliver present and future planned Renewable Energy Zones (REZ) and transmission projects.
- Grid connection due diligence including grid prospecting, connection optioneering, risk assessment and contingency analysis.
- Liaise with, and support (and lead, as required) Mott MacDonald global Energy teams and initiatives i.e., power system planning, grid compliance, asset modelling and commissioning compliance studies.
- Lead and author design reports, technical investigation reports and technical specifications
- Drive business development and sales associated with Power Systems projects to create a pipeline of consultancy opportunities.
About You:
- Qualified electrical engineer with experience in transmission/distribution projects (designs from 22kV to 500kV) in utilities, renewable power, or similar fields
- In-depth knowledge of relevant Australian Standards and industry guidelines
- Experience in the technical delivery of multi-disciplinary projects, whether that's from a consulting, utilities or contracting environment
- Experience preparing design and assessment reports
- Offshore wind design experience is highly regarded, though not essential
