Technical Officer Rehabilitation and Ecology - ERA

About the role
We are looking for a Rehabilitation and EcologyTechnical Officer for a ground-breaking closure project where you will play a part in the execution of key rehabilitation programs, making a true impact to the successful Rehabilitation and positive legacy of Jabiru. This role will focus on supporting ecological studies to help inform the Ranger Rehabilitation Strategy and ensure the ongoing successful closure of the former Ranger Mine.
Reporting to the Specialist Rehabilitation & Ecology and working a nine-day fortnight, the key responsibilities of the Technical Officer will include:
Safely conducting regular surveys of the rehabilitated ecosystems to monitor ecosystem development and to inform ongoing land management activities. This will involve:
Preparing field sheets and equipment;
Collecting field data on vegetation establishment and fauna colonisation;
Entering and managing data; and
Potential to assist with data analysis and reporting
Assisting with ongoing Rehabilitation and Ecology studies including soil development and nutrient cycling, as well as fire, weed and pest management. There may also be opportunity to gain experience with other field investigations involving water and sediment sampling.
Maintenance of seed storage facilities and preparation of seeds for testing/propagation.
Engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, consultants, government and/or Traditional Owner groups.
The role has a 5/2/4/3 fortnight roster and will be Bus In Bus Out (BIBO) between Darwin and Jabiru. If required, there may be opportunity to be locally based residentially in Jabiru.
What you will bring
Mandatory
NT Driver’s Licence
Experience working in remote and/or hot/humid environments
A passion for regularly working outdoors
A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
Very Important
Qualification in environmental science related fields
Vegetation and/or fauna fieldwork experience
Organisational and data management skills
Experienced with Microsoft word and excel
It will also be beneficial if you are:
Familiar with local flora/fauna species
Experience in ecosystem rehabilitation
Experience working in northern Australian savannah

Where you will be working
The former Ranger Uranium mine is located on Aboriginal land in the beautiful and rugged Alligator Rivers Region of the Northern Territory. It is surrounded by, but separate from, the dual world-heritage listed Kakadu National Park.
Energy Resources of Australia Ltd (ERA) is a publicly listed company with Rio Tinto as it’s major shareholder. ERA mined and produced uranium oxide from Ranger from 1980 until 2021; the site is now in closure and rehabilitation.
