We’re hiring a Technician for CCTV, Audio, Video and Alarm
Hey there, we’re BJ’s and we’ve been securing pubs, clubs, hotels, and bottle shops with easy-to-use Audio, Video, CCTV and Alarm Systems for 30+ years. We’ve designed 1000s of systems, serviced 100s of venues, installed many TV’s, large format LED screens, projectors, audio and recorded millions of hours of footage to keep our customers compliant and their patrons safe. We are a small, tight-knit install / service team, and are part of a company with two retail / hire stores in Brisbane and Gold Coast, who use the latest in technology and take the time to do good planning, so we get our solutions right the first time.
About the job
You will work as an CCTV, Alarm, Audio and Video Technician installing and servicing systems at hospitality venues and retail shops. We offer a wide variety of hands-on work. on the tools, not just the same thing day in day out found in most companies. You will be installing completely new systems on new and existing sites, servicing, fault finding, copying incident footage, or experimenting with new hardware.
CCTV is March Networks, Hikvision IP and Analogue, Wisenet Analogue cameras. ALARM is mostly Tecom Panels and Bosch Detectors.
Usually, you will work as a pair, but you may work solo from time-to-time depending on staff availability and the complexity of the job.
You will let your customers know when you get there, keep them updated about your progress, and show them how to use our systems so they’re empowered to operate it themselves. The ability to think beyond what's being reported on the surface is essential.
To you give an example of our day-to-day here are some recent jobs we’ve done:
- Install eight 43 to 98 inch commercial TVs, two staff in one venue.
- Three days to fit out all the CCTV, Alarm and Audio system on a Bottle shop, two staff
- Friday (service day) service jobs in one round trip by yourself.
You like being on the tools and you love to learn. You smile when all the drill holes perfectly line up, the cables are straight, and everything works when you leave. You have excellent communication skills and make hard concepts approachable to our customers. You are well presented at all times, and you thrive working in pairs, but you don’t mind your own company when you’re working solo either.
You have an Australian driver’s license so you can drive our company vehicles, Queensland Type 2 Security License will be required to be able to work on security equipment, Elevated Work Platform (Yellow Card) and an Open Cabling License with endorsements so you can safely run structured data cables. The latter aren’t a deal breaker, so if you don’t have a cabling license or Yellow Card, we are open to negotiating a paid training course as a part of your onboarding, provided you have relevant experience.
You will mostly start and finish your working day from our Coopers Plains workshop. We primarily work in venues throughout SE QLD, but our footprint extends from Northern NSW to Western and Far North QLD, so you will occasionally travel for work with generous notice periods and compensation (See “About our pay and benefits”).
You might have a background in CCTV, Alarms, MATV, AV, or something else entirely. If this opportunity excites you and you think you can do it, please don't rule yourself out even if you don’t feel you tick every box.
You will be working in security; therefore it is essential that you have a Queensland Type 2 Security Licence.
About our pay and benefitsThis is a permanent, long term, full-time position and depending on your skills and experience, we are prepared to offer you a wage between $35 to $50 per hour + 11% superannuation. A fully equipped, fully loaded, Toyota HiAce for driving to and from work at the completion of your probation period.
We like coming to work and working together. Some flexible starts and flexible finishes, but a regular 38 hour week and 2-6 hours of paid overtime per week is common depending on where the work is located. We include travel to and from the job from our workshop in Coopers Plains as a part of your working hours.
We occasionally travel to venues in Northern NSW and throughout QLD, and when we do, we fairly rotate the work with other staff. Flights, accommodation, and a generous daily allowance are given. Similarly, we occasionally work a night shift at sensitive venues, and when we do, we fairly rotate it plus give you the whole next day off to be flexible.
You will get the standard 4 weeks of paid annual leave and 10 days of personal leave. You will also get the other entitlements afforded to you under the Electrical and Communications Award.
