Job description

Reporting to our Multi-Department Manager, the role of a Telecommunications Network Planner in our import logistics company involves specific responsibilities related to telecommunications infrastructure and connectivity needs in the context of import logistics operations.

Key Role Responsibilities:

1.     Network Design and Implementation: for our new warehouse's initial setup and maintenance

The planner designs and implements the Telecommunications Network infrastructure required to support import logistics operations. They assess the communication requirements of the company, including data transmission, voice communication, and real-time tracking systems. Based on these needs, they design and deploy an efficient and reliable network that ensures seamless connectivity across various locations, including warehouses, transportation hubs, and customs facilities.

 

2.     Connectivity and Communication Solutions

The planner selects appropriate connectivity solutions to facilitate smooth information flow within the import logistics operations. This includes evaluating and deploying technologies like wide area networks (WANs), virtual private networks (VPNs), and dedicated lines to establish secure and reliable connections between different stakeholders involved in the import process, such as suppliers, carriers, customs authorities, and internal teams.

 

3.     Network Performance and Optimization

     The planner monitors and optimizes the performance of the Telecommunications Network to ensure it meets the demands of import logistics operations. They analyze network performance metrics, identify bottlenecks or areas of improvement, and make necessary adjustments to enhance network efficiency, bandwidth allocation, and overall connectivity quality. They may also implement Quality of Service (QoS) measures to prioritize critical communications, such as real-time tracking data or customs documentation exchange. Periodical network audit to ensure the highest quality of services and scalability.

 

4.     Integration with Supply Chain Systems

The planner collaborates with IT teams and system integrators to integrate the Telecommunications Network with various supply chain management systems and software platforms used in logistics.

 

Integrating network connectivity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, warehouse management systems (WMS), transportation management systems (TMS), and customs clearance platforms to ensure seamless data exchange and process automation across logistics operations.

 

With the plan of implementing RFID, the planner serves as the backbone of RFID implementation, enabling the smooth operation, data transmission, and integration of RFID systems within the warehouse’s infrastructure.

 

5.     Security and Data Protection

In import logistics, ensuring the security and integrity of data is crucial. The planner assesses potential vulnerabilities in the network infrastructure and implements security measures to safeguard sensitive import-related information, such as customs declarations, shipping documents, and customer data.

Implementation of firewalls, encryption protocols, intrusion detection systems, and other security measures to protect against cyber threats and data breaches.

6.     Vendor and Service Provider Management

The planner liaises with telecommunications service providers, equipment vendors, and technology partners to procure the necessary equipment, software, and services required for the Telecommunications Network. They negotiate contracts, manage vendor relationships, and ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met.

Periodical audits and maintenance of telecommunication hardware such as servers, computers, internal VOIPs

 

7.     Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity

Import logistics operations rely heavily on uninterrupted connectivity. The planner develops and implements disaster recovery plans and backup strategies to minimize downtime in case of network failures or disruptions.

Set up redundant connectivity options, backup systems, and contingency measures to ensure business continuity and minimize the impact of any network outages.

Skills, Experiences and Knowledge required:

  • Advanced diploma study in the area of Telecommunications Network Engineering or above level is required.
  • Proven record of working experience in the areas of import and/or export industry and the freight forwarding industry (Air and Sea)
  • Excellent communication skills, both in English and in Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese).
  • With business maturity, managerial skills, and stakeholder management skills, with analytical skills and a hands-on attitude.
  • Be able to work efficiently in a complex, dynamic, changing environment in a matrix structure.
  • Be able to work under pressure and proactively challenge the status quo of the organization.
