Job description

  • Work for a purpose driven charity
  • Brisbane, Logan, Redland Areas
  • Casual Appointment - Set Term Roster
  • Competitive Hourly Rate + Great Culture + Fun Team Environment

Work with young people to make a difference.

To meet program demand across Southeast Queensland, TRACTION is seeking to expand its program delivery team.

As a TRACTION Youth Program Facilitator, you will lead, mentor and support our young people through our unique program that includes ‘on the tools’ practical workshop activities and holistic approaches, to deliver our core Bike Build Program from our varied workshop locations.

Teamed with a fellow Program Facilitator and under the guidance of experienced staff, you will work as part of a team to be the face of TRACTION, through your direct mentoring with groups selected from secondary schools and community organisations. You’ll be a role model for our young people and a brand champion for our organisation.

TRACTION is seeking facilitators with demonstrated experience and skills in program coordination, delivery and youth mentoring. You will be engaged on a casual basis, to work 1 or up to 3 days per week of a set school term roster (9–10-weeks). If you are flexible and willing to travel to other operating regions (including Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Scenic Rim, Gold Coast and Moreton Bay regions), there is potential to increase your roster capacity each term and during the school holidays.

As part of the TRACTION team, you will also have opportunities for ongoing training, professional development and inclusion in team building activities as part of a for-purpose, not-for-profit organisation that is making a difference through measuring our impact.

ABOUT YOU

You thrive in a team environment. You’re committed to empowering others and want to make a difference in your community. You find it easy to connect with young people and can build authentic relationships where those around you feel safe, included, supported, and respected. You’re a strong facilitator who can inspire, challenge, and enable young people. You love having a job with real purpose, accept that each day and group will bring an air of difference, while working with an awesome bunch of people who are all on the TRACTION journey together.

  • The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation
  • Hold a current Driver’s License, a valid Blue Card (P or E status) and able to supply a National Police Check issued in the last 3 months should you be requested for an interview.

Ideal but not essential are:

  • A Certificate IV in Youth Work, Facilitation and Training, Coaching or qualification in a related human service field
  • Mechanical aptitude and/or hands on experience with bicycles, maintenance, restoration and hand tool use
  • Personal transport/vehicle
  • Be available to deliver TRACTION programs from any regional location we service in SEQ (as required).

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a TRACTION Youth Program Facilitator, you will:

  • Apply our child safe practices to foster a safe learning environment, with a focus on the safety, welfare and dignity of young people
  • Commit to the days you are scheduled to work during each term roster
  • Facilitate a full day workshop (8am-3:30pm), to deliver our structured Bike Build Program curriculum to groups of six young people
  • Be flexible to deliver programs from a set location or mobile unit within the region, as per the roster
  • Build supportive relationships and be a positive role model through our side-by-side, strengths-based mentoring approach
  • Mentor with a well-being mindset to apply the foundations of our program platform of “Be a Learner, Be Active, Be Well, Be Connected and Be Influential”, key elements to help develop the skills, resilience and confidence of our program participants
  • Be adaptable and responsive to help meet the needs of where each young participant is at in their journey, and apply methods, techniques and activities to maintain positive behaviour, progressive learning and productive group dynamics
  • Support young people to make a plan for their project and guide each individual to follow it through
  • Complete daily program administration to support safety, incident and impact reporting and contribute constructive feedback to maintain best practice and continuous improvement
  • Liaise and help build ongoing relationships with representatives from schools, community groups and government agencies
  • Ensure workshops and mobile program delivery locations are ready and resourced for the days activities
  • Be a TRACTION Ambassador in your community and collaborate with the wider TRACTION Support Crew to help deliver fundraising, events and marketing initiatives
