This is an exciting opportunity to kickstart a long-term career in building surveying with a 2 year full-time traineeship opportunity, with the first year employed by CEG with Whyalla City Council as the host employer, then transferring to Whyalla City Council employment for the remaining 1 year.
This traineeship will see the successful candidate working in our City Development team, gaining valuable skills and experience across all facets of Building Assessment and inspection, whilst studying towards a nationally recognised qualification in Building Surveying (Provide Building Surveying Services for Residential Buildings up to Three Storeys), which upon completion you will be eligible for accreditation as an Accredited Professional - Building Level 3.
What you can expect to do:
The Trainee Building Assessment Officer will receive mentoring and training to undertake building rules assessments of development applications in accordance with the National Construction Code and relevant legislation and to undertake compliance inspections and enforcement action in relation to unauthorised building work under the supervision and guidance of the Senior Building Officer.

We are looking for a person who:
- Is committed to completing the required study in order to be eligible for accreditation as an ‘Accredited professional - building level 3’ under the Planning, Development and Infrastructure (Accredited Professional) Regulations 2019.
- Strong communication skills.
- Proficient writing skills.
- Ability to deal with difficult people in a calm and professional manner.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines.
