Trainee Construction

About the team

The exciting full-time 12-month opportunity based at a one of City’s depots, will form part of a team undertaking construction works across the City of Gold Coast. In the role of Civil Construction Trainee, you will be responsible for carrying out a variety of manual labour and small plant operations associated with the delivery of civil construction projects and maintenance tasks within our City.

You will also undertake formal training and assessment with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) which will lead to a nationally recognised qualification in construction. This training is proudly funded by the Queensland Government through its Skilling Queensland for Work Initiative – First Start Program. The program aims to provide young people and disadvantaged Queensland job seekers with opportunities to gain a nationally recognised qualification and 12 months on the job experience.

About your new role

What you’ll be responsible for:

  • Undertake construction labouring works including pipelines, manholes, gully pits, outlet structures and associated works in a safe manner in line with implemented processes and procedures.
  • Asphalt placement and compaction to roadways and bikeways.
  • Laying and finishing concrete for kerb and channel, footpaths, bikeways and associated infrastructure including exposed aggregate, stencilled and stamped concrete.
  • Deliver works to a high standard in line with relevant project specifications.

  • A self-starter eager to learn about construction equipment, machinery, and processes.
  • Good communicators with basic language, literacy and numeracy skills with the ability to effectively communicate, understand and follow instructions in a high-risk environment.
  • Successful completion of Year 12
