About the role
Reporting to the Senior Learning & Development Specialist, the Training Specialist’s accountabilities and functions will include coordination, oversight, implementation, delivery and evaluation of training programs and activities, as well as to provide specialist advice to l personnel in relation to their training needs.
The Training Specialist will be responsible for training, assessing, onboarding, co-ordinating and managing the day-to-day requirements of the Learning and Development function in support of the regional operational / maintenance teams. One these roles is located in our Port of Esperance, and the other in Port of Bunbury.
All business activities of the Training Specialist are in line with Southern Ports’ mission, vision and corporate values.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of training needs analyses across Southern Ports in line with operational requirements, both organisational and legislative.
- Provide advice to operational leaders on training requirements in line with the training needs analysis, operational requirements, and legislation.
- Provide advice and guidance to Managers on the current development needs of individuals and groups and provide advice on appropriate development activities.
- Participate in L&D projects as required.
- Provide support & guidance to ‘On-the-Job’ training roles with planning and facilitating the verification of competency process on fixed and mobile plant.
- Provide required support to Operational teams.
- Coordination of training logistics such as registrations, training attendance records, facility bookings.
- Utilise Southern Ports Learning Management System and ensure training records are entered in a timely & accurate manner.
- Foster and maintain productive working relationships with external service providers and internal subject matter experts.
- Promote workplace safety, equity and diversity, participative management and sustainable management in the workplace and act in accordance with the Southern Ports Values.
- Travel as required to other Southern Ports regions.
Experience and Requirements
- Minimum of Field Assessment qualification, or Certificate IV in Training and Assessing TAE40116.
- High Risk Work License with classes Forklift (LF), Work Platform (WP), and experience operating these machines (preferred).
- Certificates in operation of Front-End Loaders and Excavators (preferred)
- Min 3 years relevant experience in an operational environment (construction, transport, processing etc).
- Ability to utilise the Microsoft suite of programs.
- Demonstrated ability to develop strong relationships with stakeholders.
- Demonstrated understanding of adult learning theory and practice.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and achieve objectives within set priorities and timeframes.
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills with the ability to conduct focus groups as required.

Requirements
To be eligible for this 1-year fixed term full-time role, applicants must provide proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
The successful applicant must have a current WA driver’s licence, be able to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Access Card and undergo a pre-employment medical assessment including drug and alcohol testing.
