The Trauma Service, an integral part of the Department of General Specialist Surgery at RMH. Proudly serving as one of Victoria's two adult major trauma services, we hold dual Trauma designation by both the Victorian State Trauma System and The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
The Trauma Service integrates with specialist surgical, anaesthetic, intensive care, and emergency department services, to care for Victoria’s most seriously injured patients.
RMH annually admits more than 5,000 patients, with over 1,300 suffering from serious multiple injuries, necessitating urgent surgical interventions, specialized care, and potential ICU admission. In 2023, our trauma service admitted 2,701 patients, nearly half of whom required management for major trauma cases. Our primary focus is on delivering patient-centered care to this diverse and complex patient population, a significant portion of whom hail from regions outside metropolitan Melbourne.
The Role
The Trauma Clinical Nurse Consultant is an integral member of the established Trauma Service nursing team. Working closely alongside the trauma program manager and current Clinical Nurse Consultant, this role will:
- Focus on the multidisciplinary care of trauma patients.
- Actively engage in coordinating trauma-related research and clinical trials
- Contribute to education and injury prevention initiatives.
We are seeking a senior nurse clinician to maintain a consistent presence throughout the entire care process, ensuring seamless clinical and procedural coordination for trauma patients and their families from admission to discharge.

- Experience in trauma nursing, leadership roles (such as nursing education, ANUM, or in charge positions)

All appointments are made subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Record Check, and where applicable, Working With Children Check (WWCC). All RMH employees are required to provide evidence of an immunisation assessment including evidence of vaccination against COVID-19 (3 doses) and Influenza with a TGA approved vaccine (mandatory for all clinical and or patient facing roles) prior to commencement. Selection Criteria Essential: Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with Nursing and Midwifery board of Australia via AHPRA.
Essential: Master of Nursing Science; or bachelor's degree of Nursing (or equivalent) and post graduate qualification (minimum graduate certificate) in a related clinical field Experience
Essential: A minimum of five (5) years as a registered nurse, with two (2) years full-time equivalent (FTE) in this or a related clinical field and two years FTE of advanced nursing practice in the same clinical field within the last 6 years
Desirable: Research experience, including HREC documentation, clinical trials, good clinical practice.
Desirable: Education experience- designing, delivering and evaulating education
Desirable: Injury prevention experience- participation or delivery injury prevention programs or initiatives
