Ongoing Part TIme Role
We are seeking a highly motivated nurse to join the skin/ dermatology/ plastics team as a Clinical Nurse Consultant.
- The nurse will be an experienced practitioner who uses and facilitates evidence- based practice which is visionary, creative and appropriate to the tumour stream/service.
- The successful applicant will predominantly be responsible for supporting patients and their family members through all aspects of their cancer experience. This will include making phone calls to and taking phone calls from patients from all treatment modalities and managing new referrals to the service. The ability to work with all members of the team as well as allied health and community services is essential.
- There will be opportunities to learn and develop knowledge and skills specific to breast cancer nursing via nursing colleagues and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- This is an ongoing position, working 40 hours per week and reports to Manager: Specialist Nurses

Essential Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in oncology nursing at a senior level
- An understanding of and experience with developing evidence-based practice
- Demonstrated involvement in professional activities and organisations e.g. Australian College of Nursing, Cancer Nursing Society of Australia, Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand

Key Accountabilities
1.Clinical Practice
- 1.1 Ensure the delivery of high standard of evidence-based nursing care to patients.
- 1.2 In the clinical setting, conduct comprehensive screening, assessment planning implementation and evaluation.
- 1.3 Establish and maintain effective communication with other health professional and support staff, patients’ families, the community and external care providers.
- 1.4 Collaborate with other health professionals to ensure the patient’s safe and effective transition across the care continuum and facilitate access and referrals to appropriate health resources and services.
- 1.5 Lead and facilitate the development of systems and processes to support the planning and coordination of treatment, education and support needs for patients with cancer, and their families across the disease trajectory
- 1.6 Support the ongoing development of the clinical services model and provide
- 1.7 Actively engages in the preceptorship program, ensuring succession planning for the role
- 1.8 Contribute to the development of local, national and international evidence based care guidelines, policies and procedures and patient resources.
- 1.9 Support and promote excellence and autonomy in clinical practice and patient care
- Patients and their families experience timely, relevant and personalised care
- The Nurse Consultant contributes to the MDT meetings
- Peter Mac Nursing is represented and contributes to the development of evidence based position statement or papers, recommendations and guidelines where appropriate both nationally and internationally
- Takes an active role in the planning and conduct of the nursing preceptorship program support and information to nurses in the preceptorship program allocated to the clinical service
2.Screening and Assessment
- 2.1Ensure referrals are triaged in a timely fashion
- 2.2Ensure patients with complex needs are identified and supported in a timely manner to optimize patient outcomes
- Referrals are triaged within 72 hours of receipt
- Evidence based assessment tools are completed for new patients and referrals made as required
- Demonstrates expertise in clinical assessment skills and care planning for patients with complex physical and psychosocial needs
- Supports other nurses to develop expert clinical assessment skills and develop individualised care plans
