About the Role

The Tutor in Urban Horticulture will deliver high-quality mentoring and teaching in the area of Urban Horticulture, focusing on plant science and plant materials.

Working as part of a collaborative team, and under the guidance and support of more senior academics, you will be encouraged to develop an increasing level of autonomy, while contributing to teaching excellence within the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Science, School of Agriculture, Food and Ecosystem Sciences.

This position will be primarily located at the Burnley Campus of the University of Melbourne but will be expected to teach and attend meetings, seminars and conferences at other campuses and sites from time to time.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct tutorials, practicals, online and field-based learning activities in subjects in the field of Urban Horticulture.
  • Assist in curriculum design and development of learning materials.
  • Design and mark appropriate assessment tasks, and undertake administrative functions including assistance in managing the Learning Management System.
  • Assist in management of the Burnley Plant Guide, including development of new plant data and review existing content.
  • Provide academic mentoring and support to students within the scope and level of position.
  • Support and engage in outreach and engagement activities through educational activities and demonstrations that generate interest in Urban Horticulture.

Who We Are Looking For

Our ideal candidate will be motivated to develop their academic career and demonstrates the ability to provide high-quality teaching and capacity to create innovative teaching materials. They will have the ability to work both autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and exceptional organisational and time management abilities.

You will also have:

  • An awarded or near completion of a postgraduate qualification or equivalent qualification in Urban Horticulture or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience and the ability to provide quality and innovative teaching and learning.
  • Evidence of capacity to develop new teaching materials relevant to Urban Horticulture.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and an ability to tailor information to difference audiences in a diverse environment.
  • Proven high level organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise a range of tasks, manage time effectively and meet competing deadlines.
