Zoos Victoria operates four landmark zoos, Healesville Sanctuary, Kyabram Fauna Park (KFP), Melbourne Zoo and Werribee Open Range Zoo. The position is responsible for the local delivery of the KFP/ZV Visitor Experience strategy, and in particular, the engagement of visitors through a wide spectrum of experiences, food and beverage, retail, events and interpretive media including face-to-face exhibits, kids' activities, play zones, signage, soundscapes, indigenous culture and volunteers.
Key accountabilities for the role:
- Lead the local implementation of the Visitor Experience Strategy to staff and volunteers, transforming the KFP visitor experience to include a strong F2F model
- Contribute actively as a member of the Leadership Team to assist in the development and implementation of all property plans including master plan, operations plan and department plan
- Manage the visitor engagement development and delivery of seasonal campaigns, VE activations and events as promised as part of the Business Development strategy
- Lead the planning, design and implementation of interpretation across a variety of media to best practice standards, incorporating CUA, FE and other key message development that meets strategic goals and outcomes
- Lead designated projects and participate as a member of projects to advocate best practice interpretative design and visitor engagement, resulting in quality project outcomes
- Ensure Visitor Experience team is an appropriately qualified, competent and motivated workforce, consistent with organisational objectives for safety, efficiency, commitment, enthusiasm, culture and change.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Tertiary education in a relevant discipline, tourism or interpretation, cultural heritage and/or experience in a major cultural, visitor focused environment
- Proven ability to lead in a dynamic and changing environment.
- Experience in managing and decision making in a fast pace and change operating tourism organisation.
- Proven communication and interpersonal skills in developing and fostering harmonious and participative staff relationships and strong team engagement.
- Proven ability to lead in a change environment
- Leadership and managerial experience
- Understanding and passion for the role of zoos, consistent with the vision, mission, strategic and corporate plans of the organisation is highly regarded
- National Police Check and Employee status Working with Children
