In preparation for the upcoming tourism season, Tourism Central Australia is recruiting for a Visitor Information Centre Officer/Tour Guide at the Battery Hill Gold Mining and Heritage Centre in Tennant Creek. This position will be an ambassador for the Barkly and Central Australian region, nurture strong relationships across the tourism industry, and support the day to day operations of the Battery Hill Gold Mining and Heritage Centre which incorporates the Tennant Creek Visitor Information Centre.
Additionally this position will also undertake daily underground mine tours.
Tourism is a key economic driver for the Barkly region and this position in partnership with key stakeholders will be the primary advocate and change maker.
An important core role will be to support the day to day operations of the Battery Hill Gold Mining and Heritage Centre. With just under $2M in funding being committed to the re-development of the Battery Hill Gold Mining and Heritage Centre by the Northern Territory Government now is an exiting time to be part of the growth and development of this iconic and much loved tourism attraction in partnership with a small but dedicated team.
Skills and expertise
- Understanding and knowledge of the business community in the Barkly region and Central Australia is preferred but not essential
- Ability to work with member businesses to be develop mutually beneficial business outcomes
- A people’s person willing to go above and beyond to provide information and advice on local tourism in the Barkly region.
- Experience in working within tourism with particular preference to having worked at a tourism attraction or Visitor Information Centre or worked on the frontline in roles such as a tour guide.
