Port Macquarie Base Hospital is a level five facility with a 24-hour Emergency Department and provides a range of specialist medical and surgical services including intensive care, cardiology, mental health, paediatrics, obstetrics, orthopaedics and urology. There is a state-of-the-art hybrid operating theatre/angiography suite.
What you'll be doing
We are looking for a VMO Paediatrician to join three well established Paediatricians in Port Macquarie, to provide paediatric services to both inpatients and outpatients at Port Macquarie Base Hospital (PMBH) and other hospitals in the Hastings Macleay Clinical Network of the Mid North Coast Local Health District.
This appointment has the potential to expand into a private practice due to the future retirement of a well-established local Paediatric Physician if the successful applicant is interested.
In association with the co-located UNSW Rural Clinical School, which provides medical training for students from Year 1 to Year 6, there may be opportunities to facilitate interests in academic, teaching and research work.
Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases
If you are applying for a Category A position, under the NSW Health Policy Directive , evidence of current immunity status that complies with the policy must be supplied.
COVID-19 Vaccination Compliancy
All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID vaccines available in NSW.
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. A third does is a requirement for Category A positions and boosters doses are highly recommended for all other health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. Please provide proof of booster vaccination if available.

Selection Criteria * Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist General Paediatrician, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
- Demonstrated recent clinical experience in General Paediatrics at the role delineation of the service.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
- Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
- Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.
