This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2024 

Aveley Secondary College (SC) is seeking an organised and enthusiastic Vocational Education and Training (VET) and Workplace Learning (WPL) Coordinator to join their team.

The successful applicant will ideally have previous experience and knowledge of Vocational Educational Programs and Workplace Learning in schools and will be able to carry out the key responsibilities as listed in the Job Description Form (JDF). They should be highly organised and motivated and possess excellent communication skills. Additionally, the successful applicant should assist with related administrative processes including monitoring the WPL Program budget, maintaining the WPL Program database and preparing relevant correspondence.

This important role provides overarching support and leadership across the VET and WPL space including brokering successful partnerships, communicating with all stakeholders and maintaining accurate records.

About the School

Aveley SC opened in 2018 with a Year 7 cohort and has a current enrolment of over 1100 students. It will continue with an additional cohort each year until 2023 when it will have the full range from Years 7 to 12. The College is committed to an ethic of excellence. There is a strong progressive and future focused approach in meeting student needs. Our aim is to prepare students with the 21st century skills of teamwork, collaboration, and creative problem solving.

Aveley SC has a diverse offering of Academy courses for students that operate as extra curricula options. The College has state-of-the-art facilities, including spacious general classrooms, dedicated Science labs, Cooking and Textiles rooms, including a commercial kitchen, Sports Hall, playing courts and oval. It includes a dedicated Education Support Hub with specialist facilities and staff for students with high needs.

The Stage 2 building program is now completed adding outstanding Visual and Performing Arts facilities to our College

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Knowledge of VET and WPL programs and the ability to facilitate college/industry partnerships.
  • Organisational and planning skills and well developed computer skills, including databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Well developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to establish, influence and maintain effective working relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Well developed interpersonal skills including the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a team environment.

Eligibility and Training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
