Hays Cairns Trades & Labour have partnered with a small remote Council in Tropical Far North Queensland who are currently seeking a well-versed and enthusiastic Water & Waste Plant Operator to join their team for a permanent residential role. Your new role
This role involves the operation and maintenance of water and sewerage treatment plants in the friendly communities of Northwest Queensland. You will be responsible for monitoring equipment, recording results, and adjusting operations based on test outcomes. This council is set to upgrade their current system in the coming months where you will play a crucial role in facilitating and assisting this process, whilst maintaining current infrastructure. You will also work with external contractors, assist with infrastructure maintenance, and suggest system improvements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Monitoring and operating the sewerage and water treatment plants, pumps, equipment, and assets.
- Recording daily results of various meters and entering test results onto a spreadsheet.
- Calibrating dosing pumps and adjusting dosing rates according to test results.
- Working with external contractors as required and assisting Council's Plumbing team with maintenance and repairs to water infrastructure.
- Recommending improvements to the system that would facilitate better services to the residents or improve efficiency and reduce costs within the area of responsibility.
This role will be a Monday to Friday residential role with weekend on-call responsibilities shared across the team. The council is committed to offering ongoing upskilling opportunities and support.
What you'll need to succeed
You will have a strong background working in the operation and maintenance of water and sewerage treatment plants and associated infrastructure. You are self-sufficient, adaptable, have good computer skills and hold work health and safety to the highest standards.
The following licences, skills and qualifications will lead to your success in this role:
- Hold a current 'C' Class Driver's Licence
- Construction Induction White Card & Confined Spaces Certificate
- Chlorine Safety Certificate or willingness to obtain
- Current high risk Forklift licence and/or Backhoe Operator Ticket (desirable)
- Certificate III in Water Operations and/or Wastewater Operations or relevant experience as a trade qualified plumber
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to problem-solve and work efficiently individually and within a small team
- Previous remote experience working in communities will be highly regarded.
- Clear National Criminal History Check, Drug and Alcohol and basic medicals.
