The role:

Shadbolt Group is seeking for an experienced Welding Supervisor on a Full-time permanent basis based in our branch in Sydney. 

As the Welding Supervisor, you will oversee and manage all welding activities. You will be responsible for ensuring that work is performed to the required project. You will provide, supervised, support guidance to welders throughout the welding process. 

The Welding Supervisor will also be required to Support the Production Supervisor in day-to-day management of the Welding activities to provide the production team for consolidation progress.


The key responsibilities of this role will include but are not limited to:

  • Supervise a team off professional Welders
  • Liaise and maintain relationships with other Welding Supervisors and our National Welding Coordinator
  • Compiling & maintaining Weld Records, Welder Qualifications & delivery of OQE activities in accordance with Shadbolt Quality Management System and ISO 3834 requirements
  • Ensuring Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS’s) are implemented and maintained throughout the tasks
  • Issue and record welding consumables
  • Provide support and guidance to welders throughout the welding process.  Develop innovative solutions to welding problems
  • Record non-conformances and technical anomalies via the correct reporting mechanisms
  • Interpret engineering and detail fabrication drawings, specifications and standards
  • Manage Weld Tests for new recruits
  • Undertake and pass all necessary weld qualifications in required weld processes
  • Perform the welding of steel components in all positions
  • Maintain all correct consumables, feeds, amperages and pre heat in accordance with applicable weld procedures
  • Perform welding techniques including, but not limited to, MMAW, FCAW
  • Weld steel structures in sequence to eliminate shrinkage and distortion of steel components
  • Remove tack welds, clean and restore weld preparations where required
  • Perform gouging operations if required
  • Conduct visual inspection and clean up between runs and at the completion of each weld
  • Assign welder number to each completed mark when required
  • Maintain correct and accurate MARK numbers on steel components
  • Utilise all hand tools and welding machines to perform required functions
  • Follow quality control systems and techniques
  • Complete Weld Maps of welding work completed
  • General duties as required
  • Shipbuilding/Ship Repair knowledge desirable but not mandatory
  • Recognised Welding Certificate
  • Welding Supervisor AS 1796 Certificate 10 qualification (or similar)
  • Knowledge and experience
  • Supervision or leadership experience and/or relevant training course (or equivalent)
  • Previous records of passed welding qualifications 
  • Ability to manage and perform Weld Tests for new recruits/candidates
  • Minimum 5yrs with similar welding processes, specifications and standards

You will bring the following skills and experience to the role:

  • Proven experience working as a Welding Supervisor

Other aspects of this role include:

  • Full time position.
  • Full medical required for this position.
  • Police clearances required for this position.

Special Requirements:

  • Eligibility to apply for and maintain eligibility to hold a Defence Common Access Card
  • Travel interstate if and when required;
  • Availability to ‘Go to Sea.’
