About the role

SIQ have an increased demand for our services and are looking to expand our team.

The hands on Quality Control Inspector will ensure all aspects of company and client quality requirements run smoothly, are well planned, compliant and that all administration relating to each project is conducted completely, correctly and on time. 

Hours of work can vary, but generally 6am – 2:30pm Monday to Thursday, with a 12:30pm finish on Friday’s however, this will change due to operational and client requirements. Weekend and night work is part of the projects we undertake, so Saturday and Sundays will be required as needed, penalty rates shall apply.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Undertake welding supervision and welding inspection activities
  • Undertake asset inspection activities and reporting
  • Complete company and client inductions in a timely manner
  • Development and ongoing implementation of quality deliverable's such as Inspection and Test Plans, Field Inspection Check sheets and welding related documentation
  • Prepare and maintain weld mapping, weld consumable, and material traceability
  • Develop PQR’s/WPS’s and maintain registers thereof
  • Assign weld procedures to projects
  • Witness welder qualification test and draft welder qualification records
  • Maintain welder qualification records and requalify or revalidate as required
  • Coordination and management of Non-destructive testing activities
  • Maintain calibration records
  • Carry out inspections for fabrication, welding, construction and in service equipment for adherence to shop and/or IFC drawings
  • Inspect all welding related activities including weld preparations, preheat and inter pass temperatures, welding parameters are within WPS requirements, visual and dimensional inspection, and completion of inspection reports.
  • Identify non-conformances, escalate where required, recommend, and implement corrective action
  • Assist in the continuous improvement through lesson learned
  • Develop and deliver company training and toolbox talks to provide quality products with minimal rework
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in welding, applying knowledge of welding techniques, materials, equipment, and fabrication requirements.
  • Scoping and planning weld repairs
  • Ensure work is carried out in accordance with Australian and International Standards as appropriate.
  • Ensure completion of all tasks in accordance with Safety Management Plan, Quality Management System and all other Company/Client guidance processes, procedures, and documentation
  • Preparation and compilation of project quality verification documentation including the compilation of project MDRs.
  • Produce and deliver welding quality assurance training.

Mandatory:

  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience as a Welding Supervisor or inspector in construction and workshop fabrication of SMP projects.
  • Boilermaker / Welder trade qualification.
  • A Welding Supervisor qualification such as AS 1796 Cert 10 / AS 2214 / IIW IWS
  • A Welding Inspector qualification such as CSWIP 3.1 / IIW IWI B / Weld Australia CWI / AWS CWI or higher
  • Competent in the Microsoft Office applications suite
  • Working knowledge of the AS/NZ ISO 3834 Quality requirements of fusion welding or metallic materials
  • Working knowledge of the AS/NZ ISO 9001 quality systems and processes
  • Working knowledge of Australian and international standards and codes
  • Familiar with all Welding process
  • Experience in PQR/WPS documentation development
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings
  • Ability to work within a team and autonomously
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • Strong communication skills, both written & verbal 
  • Excellent organizational, time management and planning skills.
  • Strong Health and Safety Focus
  • Minimum of C Class Drivers License
  • Australian Rights to work
  • Construction White Card 
  • Confined Space (valid within 2 years)
  • Working at Heights (valid within 2 years)
  • High Risk Work License - EWP over 11M (WP)

Desirable:

  • IIW International Welding Specialist / Technologist / Engineer
  • Welder Certifications to AS 1796 Certs. 1-9
  • NACE Coating Inspector certifications
  • Welder training experience
  • Cert IV Trainer & Assessment
  • High Risk Work License - Forklift License (LF)
  • HR Class Drivers License
