The Role
Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group is a specialist area of Defence responsible for the manufacture and support of all Navy Maritime vessels. The WHS roles support a predominantly contracted out construction and maintenance workforce. The positions offer you the opportunity to work within a larger national WHS team of likeminded and dedicated WHS professionals. You will have access to funding to support further academic and opportunities to upskill. We will support your professional memberships and technical WHS advice is only a phone call away.
Due to the industrial nature of some positions, it is desirable that you have a minimum of three years’ full time industrial or equivalent WHS experience. You may also need to be available to staff on site daily in some roles, while other roles may allow you to work remotely. We also offer the security of a long-term Public Service career, regular work hours and generous superannuation contributions.
About our Team
Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group (NSSG) is located at multiple locations across Australia. These include Osborne, Henderson, Darwin, Cairns, Sydney and a headquarters function in Canberra. This recruitment will establish a merit pool to fill current WHS vacancies and future WHS positions across NSSG at Regional Maintenance Centres, System Program Offices and other area’s within NSSG.
NSSG WHS is a challenging work environment that enables the WHS Officer to contribute to implementing WHS governance and assurance activities. Our aim is to support the Navy and our Defence Industry partners to efficiently deliver safe, reliable and capable fleet on time, every time.
Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will have WHS experience in industry, or the maritime environment with the ability to identify hazards and implement preventative processes and strategies. You will undertake verification of contractor safety plans and reports, undertake inspections and workplace observations and participate in formal audits, deliver induction briefs, provide management with advice and reports, and will work with engineering and logistics staff to improve our maintenance processes. You will be skilled at working with both trades and management staff and have a working level understanding of WHS legislation.
