About the Role
The WHS Project Officer supports the development and implementation of the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Framework for the Murraylands and Riverland, and Limestone Coast Landscape Boards.
The role is responsible for developing consistent policies and procedures to be adopted by the landscape boards, working with management teams and health and safety committees to undertake critical risk assessments, and identifying gaps in health and safety systems. The role will coordinate inspections of worksites and equipment as well as training/workshops with staff to instil and maintain a safety culture that is led from the top down.
The successful applicant may negotiate to work from either the Murraylands and Riverland, or Limestone Coast Landscape Board, and will report to the Business Manager of that landscape board.
Key results / outcomes to be achieved
- Development of a WHS Framework that complies with relevant legislation, standards and codes of practice
- Development of a suite of WHS policies and procedures, including updating of existing policies and procedures, and authoring of policy documents to address identified gaps
- Assist each landscape board to develop a critical risk register and implement processes to actively manage critical risks
- Liaise with key stakeholders, including the management teams of the 2 landscape boards and their health & safety committees, to report on findings, develop policies/procedures, and respond to queries
- Support each landscape board to fulfil its duty to consult with workers
- Undertake worksite audits to identify key risks and recommend suitable controls, including maintenance schedules and safe work procedures for all equipment.
- Provide training on the WHS framework and key policies to senior managers and staff
- Contribute to a safe workplace by accepting responsibility for own and others’ safety, identifying and reporting hazards, and participating in consultation about health and safety matters.
Through the Landscape South Australia Act 2019 (Landscape Act), eight regional landscape boards and Green Adelaide work with partners to deliver practical, on-ground programs to manage landscapes. They invest landscape levies into regional priority issues as well as leveraging external funding towards managing and protecting our productive and natural landscapes.
Each landscape board has a duty of care under the (the WHS Act) to, as far as reasonably practicable, safeguard the health and safety of its workers and others affected by the landscape board’s work, including contractors and volunteers. Each landscape board also has a duty to consult with workers on matters of health and safety.

Contract for up to 2 years
Essential Qualifications:
A tertiary qualification in policy, business, work health and safety, or law is highly desirable.
Special Conditions:
- Based in the Murraylands, Riverland or Limestone Coast region
- A current minimum class C driver’s licence is required
- Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory criminal history check
- Some out of hours work and intrastate travel involving overnight absences from home may be required.
- Required to participate in the employing landscape board’s Performance Development and Review Program.
CLASSIFICATION ASO6 $97,022 min - $102,626 max p.a.
