Barunga West Council is located on the "Top of the Yorke" - the northern end of the Yorke Peninsula - and boasts popular fishing destinations and historic inland townships. Just two hours from Adelaide the key townships include Port Broughton, Bute, Alford, Kulpara, Mundoora, Melton and the coastal destinations of Fisherman Bay and Tickera.Reporting to the Director Development & Regulatory Services, your primary objective will be ensuring the compliance of relevant legislation and Council policies, by-laws and statuary obligations, including assisting developing and implementing internal policies, procedures and systems, including the monitoring and renewal of Council's leases, licenses if and when required. In addition, assist in the closure of unmade roads.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:The development, implementation and review of Council's Work Health and Safety (WHS), Return to Work (RTW) and Risk Management systems, monitoring progress and Compliance, and identifying opportunities for improvement.Providing professional advice to staff in relation to WHS, RTW and Risk Management to ensure compliance.Promoting a positive safety culture across the organisation through training, education, awareness, and engagement.Coordinating and participating in WHS and Risk Management projects as required.Managing administration including Council reports, relevant registers, lease and licence records, animal management plans, and emergency management plans.Coordination of the compliance needs of Council, but not limited to animal management, fire prevention, illegal development, local nuisance etc.To be successful in this role, you will have:Minimum of Certificate IV in WHS, Risk Management or similar discipline.Proven work experience in WHS, Risk and Compliance, ideally within Local Government.Ability to work collaboratively as a team player who contributes to and drives a positive culture of workplace safety.Proven ability to reference and interpret legislation relevant to the role.Excellent verbal and written communication skills combined with strong time management.Proficiency in current windows-based computer systems and software applications.This role would suit someone who is passionate about providing exceptional WHS, Risk Management and Compliance Services to the workforce.
