Work Health & Safety Manager

Bellevue Gold Limited (ASX:BGL) is a high-grade gold mine in Western Australia. The Bellevue mine has a forecasted 10+ year mine life producing over 200,000 Au Ozs for the first five years of production. Construction of the mill has recently been completed, with first gold pour completed in CY Q4 2023.

Underground mining has occurred since late 2020 to establish multiple mining fronts that de-risks the project in advance of underground production. The operation is an industry stand out with strong financial and ESG metrics underpinned by the exceptional grade of the project.

The Bellevue Gold Project is located approximately 30km north of Leinster township and sits in a major gold and nickel producing district. The Company has a highly skilled management team with a track record of exploration success and development of major gold mines.

The Work Health & Safety Manager is responsible for supporting site operations and assisting with the implementation of Work Health & Safety Management Systems aligned with operational readiness requirements. 

This position is offered on a full-time basis, working 12 hours per day on an 4/3,4/3,4/3, 8/6 roster at our Bellevue Gold Project outside of Leinster WA. 

Your main duties and responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

• Develop strategies to prevent and minimise workplace fatality, injury, disease and ill health
• Ensure the businesses’ WHS activities and operations are conducted in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and company code of conduct
• In collaboration with Principal – WHS, establish and implement systems and procedures for safety/risk management, emergencies and crisis management
• Lead the Site Work Health & Safety, Medical, Emergency Response, Training and Security functions, as well as work closely with site based contracting groups and their safety departments
• Ensure safety compliance across all BGL contractors, visitors and business partners. All contractors should be audited to ensure compliance, with particular regard to the BGL Contractor Management Standard
• Conduct workplace inspections, ensuring compliance with all required legislation, Codes of Practice, Australian Standards, etc..
• Actively participate and lead investigations associated with critical incidents and high potential risk incidents
• Take ownership and lead in the continuous improvement of whole of mine risk assessment. For all activity, identify emerging risks to the business and participate in and direct risk assessments when required.
• Interpret trends and provide appropriate written and oral reports to senior managers and executives
• Establish priorities for action within a site risk profile taking account of criticality of risk
• Manage the Occupational Hygiene program, including sampling, fit testing and the requirements of Mine Air Quality and Noise Officer.
• Ensure the training needs of all departments are met
• Champion Critical Risk Management and Incident Management
• Lead and support organisational change to achieve a positive safety culture, WHS objectives and implementation of strategy
• Support organisational change within this role’s area of control to achieve WHS and training objectives and strategy
• Support and coach departmental managers and site-based WHS and training staff

Key Skills/Qualifications/Experience/Competencies: 

• Tertiary qualification in relevant Work Health & Safety discipline
• Previous experience in a similar site based Work Health & Safety Manager role
• Previous experience in underground operations, processing plants and emergency response
• 10+ years’ experience in a similar role
• In-depth knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations within the Mining industry
• Understand WHS processes and requirements.
• Proficient in INX operating system (or similar)
• Well-developed written and verbal communication and literacy skills.
• Ability to work under pressure in high stress environments.
• Ability to work to deadlines; and
• Strong time and project management skills.
