About the role:
The purpose of the Workers Compensation & Injury Management Lead is to provide specialist advice and tactical leadership in relation to the Opal HealthCare Workers Compensation Program and to lead the Injury Management Team to optimise outcomes for injured team members and minimise claims costs for Opal HealthCare.

Responsibilities include:
- Provide specialist knowledge and guidance in the management of Opal HealthCare’s Workers Compensation Program including Self-Insurance licences where held.
- Lead the application for self-insurance in jurisdictions currently in state schemes and manage the renewal of current self-insurance licences.
- Ensure all self-insurance licence conditions are met, completing regulatory reports as required.
- Manage and enhance working relationships with external partners – brokers, insurers and third-party administrators - to support performance and delivery of agreed KPIs.
- Provide strategic advice and be directly involved in all Workers Compensation legal matters including personal injury /common law damages claims
- Monitor the security and integrity of Opal HealthCare's Injury Management data systems to ensure appropriate levels of compliance are maintained at all times.
- Lead and manage the Injury Management Team, ensuring workloads are appropriately distributed to enable excellent service to all injured Team Members.
- Implement strategies that will engage senior and operational managers to drive improvements and innovation in claims and Injury Management.
- Manage Opal HealthCare’s early intervention program and work in partnership with Injury Management providers to optimise outcomes for Team Members.
- Participate in regular claim review meetings with RGMs, GMs, Injury Management Advisors and relevant insurers.
- Assist the Health & Safety Team in developing and delivering documentation, procedures, or training in relation to Injury Management and Workers Compensation.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders and partners
Experience required:
- Significant experience in Self-Insurance and Injury Management
- Proven experience and ability to engage with key stakeholders including doctors, injured employees, insurers and operational management/supervision
- Experience in managing competing priorities to deliver high quality outcomes within agreed timeframes.
- High level reporting skills
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Comfortable working and managing role independently
- Thorough understanding of self-insurance licence requirements
- Ability to coach and mentor others involved in the RTW process to enable optimal RTW results
- Working in an aged care environment desirable
- Tertiary qualifications in Allied Health, Rehabilitation or Human Resources Management preferable or equivalent experience
