Workshop Leading Hand

Bis are now currently recruiting for Workshop Leading Hand’s to join our team, based out of our Paget Facility. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing business and industry and is an ideal role for a Mechanical Tradesperson that has previously been working as a Leading Hand and would like a new and exciting challenge OR is an ideal role for a Mechanical Tradesperson that would like to advance their career, take on a new challenge and develop their leadership and supervision skills.
Reporting to the Workshop Manager, the Mechanical Tradesperson role is responsible for the repair and maintenance such as servicing, component replacement, component overhaul, general repairs, and reconditioning works on a variety of Underground Mobile Equipment such as Loaders, Driftrunners, PJB Minecruisers, Continuous Miners, Graders, Shuttle Cars, Feeder Breakers, Power Generators and Ancillary Equipment. You will also be required to provide supervision and leadership to the Workshop personnel, oversee and maintain high standards of workmanship and productivity on the workshop floor and manage the prioritisation of work scope schedules.

• Cert III in Engineering Mechanical Trade OR Cert III in Mobile Plant Technology (or equivalent) in a relevant field.
• Provide supervision and leadership to workshop personnel.
• Oversee and maintain a high standard of workmanship and work allocation to ensure productivity on the workshop floor.
• Previous experience with repairing underground mobile plant (essential)
• Explosion Protected Diesel Engine Systems – Code D inspections and installation (essential).
• Manage the prioritization of work scope schedules.
• Liaise with stakeholders to determine the most effective utilisation of workshop resources, considering limitations and customer requirements.
• Assist with safety incidents, including investigations and closeout of related incident events.
• Ensure all work and tasks are conducted in a safe manner and that work practices minimise the risk of hard to Bis employees, plant and equipment and the environment.
• Sound knowledge and experience in the application of mining equipment and its life cycle.
• Ability to read and understand schematics and drawings.
• Ability to use measuring equipment.
• Hydraulic and pneumatic experience (preferred)
• Current drivers’ licence.

Who is Bis?

Bis owns the largest fleet of Underground Hire Equipment in the Coal Mining Industry. We provide casual and long-term hire of run of mine equipment including Load Haul Dump (LHD) Machines, Graders, and Personnel Transporters. Bis also provides casual and long-term hire of Longwall Move Equipment including Mules, Heavy Lift Load Haul Dump Machines, Pan Pickers and Dozers, ensuring greater security and flexibility while preserving valuable capital for our clients.

Additional information

• Multiple Full-time, Permanent positions available on dayshift
• Earn upwards of $164,000 base salary inc a retention bonus + superannuation + OT
• 48 hours per week, 12hr shifts, and a LONG weekend EVERY weekend!
