About the Job
Reporting to the General Manager – Operations this full-time permanent position with our long-established company is in the Laverton North area. The Workshop Manager will lead a diverse workshop team that consists of workshop team leader, machinists, robotic operators and general hands as well as supporting the engineering team. You will coach, motivate, and guide the team to ensure the workshop and manufacturer targets are met, whilst ensuring we deliver a premium level of service, every time.
About You / responsibilities required but not limited to: -
- Manage and lead workshop staff, fostering a collaborative and efficient working environment.
- Responsible for and managing workshop P&L.
- Supervise and workshop staff and apprentices, providing guidance and support to maximise individual and team performance.
- Collaborate with Engineers and internal Schedular to optimise processes and establish production schedules, ensuring timely delivery of products to meet customer demands.
- Ensure adherence to quality standards, production schedules, and cost control measures.
- Oversee the maintenance and calibration of manufacturing equipment to guarantee optimal performance and adherence to safety standards.
- Manage inventory levels and liaise with procurement to ensure the availability of raw materials and components.
- Collaborate with the Health and Safety team to promote a safe working environment and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
- Provide regular reports to the General Manager - Operations on manufacturing performance, challenges, and improvements.
- Ensure time sheets and general reporting are submitted in a timely manner.
- Participate in strategic planning sessions to align manufacturing goals with overall company objectives.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations for workshop staff and identify opportunities for skill development and training in conjunction with Human Resources.
- Participate in disciplinary and or staff grievances in conjunction with Human Resources as required.
- Induct and train new employees on how to safely use machinery and follow procedures.
- Ensure all leave is approved and allocated to the annual leave planner.
- Complete any investigations, root cause analysis & corrective actions in conjunction with the safety team.
- Liaise with Senior Management team as required.
- Conducting toolbox meetings and involvement in project meetings.
Must Have’s
- Experience trade background in fitting, machining or boilermaker would be advantageous.
- Proven experience in a manufacturing leadership role, preferably in automated machinery production.
- Ability to accurately document, report, and present results and statistical data.
- Experience running a workshop with the lean methodology preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Be able to ‘value-add’ by fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- The ability to relate technical information to non-technical customers.
- Results driven and self-motivated.
