The Role:
Joining as their Workshop Manager, you’ll oversee all aspects of the production of 100 tonne of structural steel a week (on average).
They’ve invested heavily in creating a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and now require an experienced, results focused Workshop Manager to oversee all coordination and production of their commercial steel contracts, including responsibility for supervising all daily workshop operation activities and leading a team of Boilermakers, Machine Operators, Welders and Apprentices.
Key duties will be:
- Supervise the workshop's daily operational activities
- Plan jobs. Provide leadership to the Leading Hand and QA officer
- Review drawings prior to issue and allocate work
- Organise weld testing and documentation for jobs
- Dispatch jobs according to the Fabrication program
- Assist in developing and training team members in welding applications
- Hold weekly toolbox meetings discussing safety / quality / environmental matters
To successfully secure this position you need to demonstrate:
- Proven experience and leadership in a similar position within a structural Steel fabrication business capable of pushing out circa 100 tonne a week
- Good planning skills for setting and planning upcoming work
- Experience with programming & operating machinery, Welding or Boilermaking experience on heavy structural steel and experience working in and managing a high paced production workshop
- Good computer skills - the ability to quickly learn internal programs
- An ability to establish rapport and manage a workshop team effectively
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- A high level of initiative, attention to detail, and excellent time management skills with a “can do” attitude
- A high level of honesty and integrity
- Formal trade qualifications (Cert III) and higher-level certificates (Cert IV and Welding Supervisor - AS2214)
