The Role
CDC NSW Engineering team is looking for a Workshop Supervisor to lead and develop the maintenance team at our Emu Plains Depot. This role will see you lead your team to provide an excellent quality of service and workmanship to maintain, repair and service our fleet of buses. You will also build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and government authorities to promote our safe and reliable transport network.
The key responsibilities include:
  • Planning and managing the daily functions of the workshop so that daily peak vehicle requirements are met or exceeded.
  • Managing vehicle maintenance workflow particularly in the areas of vehicle servicing and repairs, job card preparation and assignment, maintenance record filing, ordering of spare parts and materials
  • Ensuring all planned maintenance is delivered for both distance and time bound activities. Diagnosing, supervising, and participating in some of the complex defects and its repair
  • Ensuring vehicles are in a safe condition by implementing and controlling preventative and corrective maintenance programs, including the repair of defective buses.
  • Ensuring reported defects are prioritised and resolved promptly.
  • Assisting Operations by ensuring the provision of sufficient vehicles to fulfil operational requirements.
  • Attending to on-road breakdowns and accidents and safely recover vehicles in accordance with CDC NSW authorised procedures.
  • Supervising and managing Workshop employees, including task allocation
  • Manage and control the Workshop budget.
  • Initiating requisition for materials and equipment; authorize purchases from the registered vendors; maintaining adequate inventory of parts, equipment and supplies used in repairing and servicing vehicles.
  • Ensuring the maintenance of a clean, organised and safe Workshop
  • Performing stock control and monitoring the performance of any appointed suppliers/sub-contractors to ensure that they operate in accordance with the agreed vehicle maintenance standards.
  • Assisting the fleet manager in determining root causes for major asset breakdown and performance issues
  • Being aware of product development and trends and implementing new initiatives to improve productivity.
  • Ensuring all Workshop equipment is maintained and serviced in accordance with equipment requirements for safe operation by appropriately trained staff.
  • Ensuring all Workshop accreditations and licenses are maintained, and audits are overseen and completed where required i.e. including but not limited to Clean Fleet, air-conditioning licenses, gas licenses, etc.
  • Adhering to the requirements of the CDC NSW Asset Management Plan (“AMP”), and providing input into the continual improvement of the AMP
  • Ensuring that all vehicles are presented professionally for in-service use as well as inspection by Roads & Maritime Services and ensure that the depot fleet is maintained to a safe and presentable standard that consistently meets the regulations of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator and Roads & Maritime Services
  • To ensure that the depot fleet is maintained to a standard that enables a first-time defect-free pass at any Heavy Vehicle Inspection Station
  • Communicating with Workshop staff regarding job status and Workshop priorities
  • Managing an on-call/after-hours breakdown service and
  • Ensuring compliance and facilitate audit and continual improvement of all Asset, Quality, Environment and Safety policies and procedures of the business in line with ISO certification standards.
  • Identifying, controlling, and reporting workplace hazards and work as an active member of the Work Health and Safety Committee including attending monthly meetings and completing inspections
  • Ensuring staff development and training is managed effectively and implementing best practice strategies.
  • Mentoring, guiding, encouraging and enforcing discipline in apprentice workforce.
  • To role model behaviours and actions consistent with the CDC NSW's values and standards at all times and monitoring to ensure that this occurs for all direct and indirect reports
  • To conduct the monthly workshop toolbox talks and report the minutes of such meetings.
  • Ensuring a high level of professionalism is maintained by all workshop staff including personal appearance, cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Ensuring a healthy, safe and environmental compliant workplace
  • Ensuring employees adhere to HSE procedures.
  • Promoting a strong safety and environmentally compliant culture
  • Complying with the Responsibilities and Accountabilities defined in the HSE Management system's documents.
About You
The successful candidate will have the following:
  • Valid Tradesperson Certificate for the repair and maintenance of heavy diesel vehicles
  • Current MR Driver's License (at minimum)
  • Significant demonstrable experience in automotive heavy diesel repair and maintenance, with considerable experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity
  • Ability to work unsupervised, show initiative and self-motivation.
  • Ability to liaise with fellow employees in a professional manner.
  • Willingness to perform duties as instructed within the scope of the position.
  • Experience with Asset, Safety, Quality and Environmental Management ISO systems and processes desirable.
  • Sound knowledge of WHS requirements within a heavy vehicle repair workshop
  • Relevant computer skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and ERP systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer literacy with at least intermediate Microsoft Office Skills
  • Ability to influence others to achieve an outcome.
  • Negotiation skills Effective planning skills
