headspace provides support to young people aged 12-25 experiencing mild to moderate or emerging mental health issues. The multidisciplinary team at headspace Edmondson Park work to improve health, social, vocational and educational outcomes for young people.
Grand Pacific Health is the lead agency of headspace Edmondson Park. We are a not-for-profit, primary health care organisation providing locally-tailored, high quality physical and mental health services across NSW and the ACT.
About the position
If you are passionate about Youth Mental Health and want to make a positive difference to the lives of young people and their families, we would love for you to join our headspace team as a Youth Counsellor.
The position provides a welcoming first point of contact for young people and their friends, family and carers when seeking support from their local headspace centre. The purpose of the position is to undertake assessments and provide low intensity mental health support and psychoeducation options to young people referred to the headspace centre.
The incumbent will assess the mental health and psychosocial support needs of young people referred to headspace and, in conjunction with the headspace team develop a holistic care plan. The position will also provide early intervention counselling and support services to young people aged 12 25 who have or may be at risk of developing a mental health and/or substance use disorder.
They will also coordinate the young persons transition to appropriate further support and treatment streams with and external to headspace in accordance with clinical need.
We have multiple positions available at headspace Edmondson Park and will consider both full-time and part-time hours. The hours and days worked are negotiable and for full-time employees you have the option to enjoy a monthly RDO.
These positions are fixed-term to 30 June 2025 with extension expected subject to additional funding.
Please note that headspace Edmondson Park is currently under construction, so you will be based at our headspace Liverpool office until the centre is established in 2024.
We are looking for someone with:
- Qualifications in Social Work, Mental Health Nursing, Counselling, Psychology or other relevant field including professional registration as appropriate to qualifications.
- Demonstrated understanding of the health and wellbeing needs of young people with mental health and/or substance use problems including an ability to engage and communicate effectively with young people.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake assessment and screening of young people and their family to determine care needs and assist to access necessary services.
- Experience in providing counselling services to young people.
