As a Youth Worker, your responsibilities will encompass supporting the engagement, well-being, and social inclusion initiatives of the campus. You will deliver wellbeing support to young people, including engagement and program activities. The school provides a collaborative environment where you will receive support from teachers, fellow Youth Workers, the Head of Campus, and the Principal, ensuring a safe and conducive work environment for both staff and students. The school's physical and cultural surroundings foster a sense of inclusion, promoting learning and overall well-being among children and young people.
 
Use your background and knowledge to support students to overcome barriers through a socially inclusive program that responds to their cultural, physical, intellectual, social and spiritual needs. The school environment encourages project-based learning, outdoor adventure-based activities, On-Country, learning with Elders, the Arts and sporting activities.

You will engage with a diverse range of young people, understanding their needs and aspirations, and designing activities that contribute to their growth. Adaptability is key, as you navigate daily changes and challenges presented by young people. Your analytical skills will play a crucial role in assessing complex situations and implementing strategies to enhance the professional practice of both teaching and non-teaching staff.Top of Form
 
Responsibilities

  1. Enrolment and Induction of Young People
  • Build relationships with families and referral agencies.
  • Gather information for Personal Learning Plans during induction.
  • Collaborate on grouping and support plans for each enrolment.
  • Implement programs supporting young people's induction and understanding of FLC principles.
  • Community Relationships – Families and Agencies
    • Develop partnerships with families, key agencies, and support services.
    • Engage with local agencies on well-being programs.
    • Advocate for young people to local agencies and community groups.
    • Support the Head of Wellbeing in program delivery contacts.
  • Youth Justice and Advocacy
    • Provide support for young people in the justice system.
    • Collaborate on the enrolment of justice-involved young people.
    • Assist with court order and parole obligations.
    • Provide information to support educational and social well-being outcomes.
    • Support young people in detention to maintain connections.
  • Transition Support
    • Aid attendance improvement and class transitions.
    • Explore pathways into further education and employment.
    • Develop community relationships for employment pathways.
    • Support workplace preparation programs and transitions to employment.
  • Team Participation/Multidisciplinary Practice
    • Participate in professional supervision.
    • Join reflective practice sessions and daily staff debriefs.
  • Child Protection Procedures
    • Support staff and young people dealing with child protection issues.
    • Act as a referral point for young people to appropriate support services.
  • Administrative Responsibilities
    • Maintain records, prepare reports, and support personal learning plans.
    • Participate in young people in care compliance meetings.
  • Lead and Support Culturally Appropriate Professional Practice
    • Ensure culturally appropriate program provision.
    • Foster cultural links and community connections for young people.
    • Support a socially inclusive program addressing holistic needs.

    • Salary between $70,000 and $90,000, dependent on qualifications and knowledge

    What You Need to Succeed!
    To be successful in this unique opportunity, you will need to possess and/or demonstrate -
    • Qualifications at Degree, Diploma or Certificate level in Youth Work; Social Work; Psychology or Community Services
    • Previous experience in the youth sector
    • Knowledge and understanding of the local Aboriginal community, or a willingness to learn
    • Applicants must hold or the ability to attain a Western Australian Working with Children Check
    • Unrestricted drivers’ licence
    • Current First Aid or willingness to obtain
    • Proven ability to build strong relationships with students
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    Desirable
    • Experience working with First Nations young people
    • 3 years’ experience working in a primary or secondary school environment in a Youth Worker or student wellbeing role
    • Understanding and knowledge of Restorative Practice Framework
    • Understanding and knowledge of the Trauma Informed Practice Framework
