As a Senior Policy Officer, you will contribute to the delivery and implementation of a component of what is a far-reaching and innovative policy and legislative program. Your area of focus may be legislative reform, driving policy into operational practice or tackling national and emergent policy problems.
You will be exposed to excellent networking opportunities and support the delivery of projects which genuinely contribute to social good. Ideally, you will have experience in roles delivering policy or legislative projects, thinking strategically, working collaboratively and thriving in a fast-paced environment.
As the Senior Policy Officer, you will work autonomously and support the delivery of key government priorities within the Work and Electrical Safety Policy (WESP) branch. You will work on significant policy and legislative projects and provide skilful policy research and analysis to support senior members of the team. You will also have the opportunity to lead some pieces of policy and legislative work yourself.
Key responsibilities include:
• Provide high level strategic policy advice to facilitate the development of legislation and policy initiatives to the Manager, Director, Senior Executives and the Minister.
• Monitor national and international trends in work health and safety, electrical safety and workers' compensation and undertake research into current and emerging issues.
• Investigate, research and analyse policy and related legislative, economic and social aspects in order to develop options and recommendations on relevant issues.
• Prepare and/or co-ordinate responses to complex and sensitive issues arising from the Office of the Minister for Industrial Relations and Regulator.
• Liaise with other government departments and agencies and other key stakeholders at state and national levels.
• Prepare Cabinet submissions, including policy recommendations, briefings, correspondence and policy papers for the consideration of the Senior Executives and the Minister.
Experience in work health and safety is not required to perform this role.
