About the role

The Aboriginal Community Wellbeing Officer plays a key role in the Community Wellbeing team at Inner West Council. Directly reporting to the Community Wellbeing Manager, the role collaborates with other local Aboriginal Elders and Aboriginal community, other Council officers, the community and the management team to develop and deliver projects and initiatives in line with our organisation’s strategic priorities, operational needs and community consultation. This includes researching, planning, implementation and evaluation of community development projects focused on local Aboriginal people, community services and initiatives to meet the needs of the community. The person in this role may also be involved in the implementation of some of the project set out in Council's Anti-Racism Strategy as well as the Reconciliation Plan.

Remuneration

$85,658.56 to $104,121.16 + 11% Superannuation

Some of the required skills, experience and qualifications 

  1. Identify as being from an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island background.
  2. Tertiary qualification (Diploma or Degree) in Social Science, Community Development and / or equivalent community sector experience.
  3. Demonstrated experience working in human/community services with Aboriginal people and a diverse range of community members to develop and deliver projects and initiatives/services to meet their needs.
  4. Experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Island communities, service providers, and stakeholders and proven experience in community or cultural development and capacity building projects, health, and wellbeing initiatives and in applying evidence based leading practice.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in managing tasks and meeting deadlines.
