Contact Details: Jolanta Swierczynski - Jolanta.Swierczynski@health.nsw.gov.au⚫️🟡🔴In this role being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a genuine occupational requirement, and is authorised by section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1997 (NSW).⚫️🟡🔴About The OpportunityFairfield Hospital is seeking an Aboriginal Liaison Officer (ALO) to provide crucial support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, carers, and consumers in both inpatient and outpatient settings.The ALO will offer culturally targeted psychosocial and practical assistance within Fairfield Hospital, working closely with health staff, Aboriginal Medical Services, and community organisations.This role involves directly supporting patients and their families, navigating healthcare systems, and contributing to broader Aboriginal engagement strategies within the hospital.The ALO team, consisting of a Senior ALO and three positions, operates from an office within a dedicated space for the Aboriginal community at Fairfield Hospital, collaborating closely with Aboriginal Health Workers and receiving support from the Allied Health stream and the district Aboriginal Health Unit, including cultural supervision and training for professional development.Where you'll be workingFairfield Hospital operates on Darug land, recognising their enduring connection to the area.   • Certificate III in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care or relevant qualification OR willingness to complete and to undertake further training as identified.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the range of factors that have influenced the health status of Aboriginal communities.
  • Ability to undertake health/social needs assessments that demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of Aboriginal culture and social issues.
  • Demonstrated experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide culturally responsive care coordination or case management services to Aboriginal clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and build relationships with Aboriginal communities and Organisations to support access to services and develop referral pathways.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills and computer literacy.
