Greater Shepparton City Council invites applications for the position of Access & Inclusion Officer. The Access & Inclusion Officer position sits within the Community Wellbeing department’s Diversity team which works with the diverse communities of Greater Shepparton to support and advocate for healthy, active and safe communities for all.
The Access & Inclusion Officer role aims to advocate for and strengthen Council’s commitment to people with disabilities, their families and carers through a strategic approach.
In this role you will:
· Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen and support the improvement of accessibility and inclusiveness of people with disabilities, their families and carers across Council’s services, program and facilities.
· Provide resources and networks to support the education and implementation of the universal design principles across Council.
· Manage and lead the implementation of the Greater Shepparton Universal Access and Inclusion Plan.
· Support, resource and manage the Greater Shepparton Disability Advisory Committee.
The successful applicant will have:
· Experience working with people living with a disability, their families and carers and/or the disability sector, preferably from a government perspective.
· Experience in the development, leading and managing of strategic documents.
· Demonstrated ability to work in partnership with diverse stakeholders in local communities.
· Tertiary qualification in social sciences and/or health, disability studies, community development or substantial experience in a community development role.
· Experience in working with and supporting volunteers and/or Committees to achieve their purpose.
· Understanding of State and Local Government initiatives and policy which impact on people with disabilities, their families and carers and ability to make recommendations and changes to provide best practice.
· Demonstrated high level communication, administration, time management and project management skills.
