ACCOUNTANT (Junior Level)
We are seeking an accountant to join our finance team.
THE EMPLOYER
The National Press Club of Australia is an iconic member-based institution that is best known for informed discussion and public policy debate over the last 60 years.
Our stakeholders include journalists and other media related professionals from all over Australia, federal parliamentarians, political advisors, senior public servants, national associations and lobbyists, the diplomatic community, academia, plus many other professionals who are vitally interested in public policy and current affairs.
We are best known for our national broadcasts of the National Press Club Address, and for operating a successful hospitality & catering business for our corporate supporters and 2400 members. The Club has 50 employees.
The successful applicant reports to and works closely with the Financial Controller. This role would ideally suit a university graduate with at least two years' experience.
REPORTING TO THE FINANCIAL CONTROLLER YOUR DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:
- Undertaking all accounts receivable and accounts payable duties including raising invoices, reconciliations and preparing payment run
- Undertaking bank account reconciliations, including credit cards
- Completing required month-end procedures including journal entries and account reconciliations
- Assisting in the timely preparation and analysis of monthly management financial reports
- Management of chart of accounts
- Management of fixed assets and depreciation
- Assisting with the preparation of financial year end accounts and external audit requests
- Preparing the FBT return, Tax return and Annual return
- Assisting with the preparation of cash flow forecast/budgets
- Performing ad hoc accounting and administration duties as required
- Responding to day-to-day individual member and corporate member enquiries
- Liaising with other areas of the business including events, marketing and the kitchen
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Degree in Accounting
- Sound interpersonal and communication skills
- Team player willing to assist other areas
- High attention to detail, accurate and organized
- Willingness to learn and develop skills
- Good Excel skills a must – create, populate and formularize a spreadsheet
- MYOB Advanced skills a benefit
- Well presented & professional
