An opportunity exists for a highly motivated finance professional to join the National Archives of Australia as an APS 6 Accountant. 

The Corporate Services Branch oversees the efficient, effective and ethical management of the National Archives’ resources. This is done in accordance with the Commonwealth’s financial, procurement, employment, security and property legislative and policy frameworks. The Branch supports the workforce, facilities and culture it requires to deliver its strategic priorities and remain sustainable.

The Finance and Procurement section is responsible for the provision of high quality, timely and accurate financial and procurement advice and services to the National Archives while ensuring it meets its legislative and compliance financial framework obligations.

Under limited direction the primary duties of the role are to:

  • Perform accounting duties to accurately record and account for financial transactions of the National Archives in compliance with relevant Government policies and accounting standards.
  • Enforce proper internal control measures through checks and balances in financial processes and effective month-end procedures to ensure the integrity of the National Archives’ financial data.
  • Support the Financial Accountant (EL1) and/or the Management Accountant (EL1) in the delivery of the core financial functions as required, including (but not limited to) the following duties:
    • Preparation of internal and external financial reports and tax returns,
    • Responding to Senate Estimates questions and other reporting requirements.
    • Assisting in the annual financial statements process, ANAO audits and other internal and external reviews from time to time.  
    • Budget and forecast development, project financial reports, performance analysis.
  • Provide accurate, timely and consistent advice and support to internal stakeholders on financial performance, financial policies, and processes.
  • Develop and maintain effective, professional relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders, to identify and improve business processes and procedures.
  • Apply the principles of APS Values, Code of Conduct, workplace diversity, work health and safety and participative management within a work and team environment.
  • Promote and apply the National Archives’ Vision, Mission and Commitments as expressed in Our Values and Strategy 2030.

Qualifications/experience:
  • Highly desirable: Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field and completion of, or progress towards, professional qualifications (CPA/CA).
  • Highly desirable: Recent experience in relevant roles in the Australian Public Service.
  • Desirable: Significant experience in CBMS and Technology One or similar ERP systems, or demonstrated ability to quickly gain expertise in these systems.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the role you must be an Australian citizen. If you are selected, you will be required to successfully undergo a pre-employment check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a Baseline clearance level.
