Job description

Barwon Coast Committee of Management is a local organisation appointed by the State Government to deliver outcomes for the local community. We protect and manage coastal Crown Land from Ocean Grove to Breamlea, with our work primarily funded by the operation of three caravan parks and a seasonal camp ground.

With a workforce of more than 60 employees and revenue of approx. $9m million per annum, Barwon Coast is seeking to engage a part-time Accountant to own the day to day finance function.

About the Role

Reporting to the Corporate Services Manager, the responsibilities of the role will include: 

  • Responsible for a smooth and timely month end close including ownership of the month end task checklist, preparing and posting accounting journal entries and preparing balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Responsible for financial reporting to organisational leaders and the Committee, including month end reports and other regular push reports. Review results, prepare commentary and meet with managers to support their comprehension and financial decisions.
  • Manage tax submissions (payroll tax, PAYG, BAS, FBT) ensuring lodgement and payment within agreed deadlines.
  • Accounting for new fixed assets and periodically reviewing accuracy of fixed asset ledger, enabling timely reporting and effective management of financial and capital assets (supported by Asset Management Managed Service Provider).
  • Support the annual budget process, taking responsibility for some elements of the budget (such as wages) during preparation and supporting leaders to understand and achieve the budget throughout the year.
  • Support the preparation of the annual financial statements. Work closely with financial statement auditors to ensure a timely audit engagement.
  • Provide backup and support to the Payroll and Accounts Payable Administrator during workload fluctuations or annual leave cover (eg: payroll processing, accounts payable and receivable, revenue reconciliation).
  • Assist with improvements to systems and processes from time to time as technology and requirements evolve. 

This is a Part Time position (24-32 hours per week subject to agreement) with flexibility regarding the hours and days worked, with attractive remuneration commensurate with your qualifications, skills and experience. 


About You

You will be an experienced Accountant who has a passion for ensuring the numbers are correct and understanding the big picture when compiling and presenting reports to management.

  • Tertiary qualification (such as a Bachelor degree with Accounting major) or extensive experience in a similar role.
  • Chartered Accountant or Certified Practising Accountant qualification desirable
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Applications, including intermediate Excel skills (minimum).
  • Experience with Accounting and Payroll software (such as Xero).
  • Proven ability to calculate, post and manage financial records with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experienced in delivering exceptional service to customers and/or internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills resulting in consistently delivering work within realistic deadlines.
