Since 2004, Untamed Escapes has connected travellers with adventure, culture, wildlife, and epicurean experiences in nature. Our 1-10 day small group Adventure Tours and exclusive private tours depart Adelaide, Perth and Yulara and unearth the remote regions throughout South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory, including Kangaroo Island, Flinders Ranges, The Red Centre, Esperance, Margaret River, the Nullarbor and the Eyre Peninsula.

Seeking Adventure Tour Guides for Kangaroo Island and The Red Centre
We are looking for experienced, energetic, and charismatic Tour Guides to lead our 3-Day Kangaroo Island Adventure and 8-day Adelaide to Uluru Adventure (and reverse) tours as well as opportunities to lead other tours and charters. Successful applicants will love people, storytelling, nature, camping, and adventure and will be passionate about delivering outstanding tour experiences.
The Kangaroo Island Guide needs to be based on the island and will receive free accommodation as part of the package. This tour runs three times a fortnight from March to April, once a week between May and August, and then three times a fortnight from September.
Our 8-Day Adelaide to Uluru Adventure Tour (and reverse) departs twice a month from March to September. This guide will be required to work 16 days each month, and there are two days in between tours. You will need Red Centre (UKTNP) Guide Accreditation to lead these tours. For the right applicant, we will cover the costs of obtaining this as long as you stay with the company for at least six months.
There is also an opportunity for guides to stay on to lead other tours, such as the 10-Day Adelaide to Perth Adventure (and reverse) as well as private group and charter tours.
Remuneration is between $350-$430 per day for new employees, depending on experience.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Liaising with the Ops Manager to go over the manifest and check for special requests or requirements
- Gather and maintain the requisite equipment for each tour
- Greet and inform passengers about the itinerary and what to expect for the day
- Entertain and enlighten passengers with engaging commentary and storytelling
- Maintain cleanliness of vehicles pre-and post-tour completion
- Understand permit requirements for tour operations and ensure compliance with these conditions
- Prepare food for up to 20 people according to food hygiene regulations
- Take photos and videos whilst on tour for our social media
- Nurture respectful and productive relationships with third-party suppliers
- Routine and daily vehicle checks for oil, water and general maintenance and organise servicing requirements and inspection within existing tour schedules
- Assist with the implementation of our Road to Regeneration Manifesto, ensuring tours are operated in an environmentally responsible way
Qualifications & Experience:
- Previous experience is preferred but not essential (Full training provided for the right candidate)
- Clean driving licence with passenger endorsements (Light Rigid driver's licence)
- Current Wilderness First Aid Certificate/Remote Area First Aid
- Red Centre (UKTNP) Guide Accreditation
- You’ll need to love camping and the outdoors and have excellent physical fitness
- Must be an excellent communicator and a knack for making people feel at ease
- Excellent knowledge of flora, fauna, history and Indigenous culture
- Highly organised and able to manage stressful situations or emergencies calmly
- Think outside the box when it comes to alternative activities if cancellations, closures, and/or weather conditions warrant last-minute itinerary changes
- Passionate about Eco-Tourism and want to help us implement our Regenerative Action Plan
- Must be flexible and willing to be on the road for stints of up to 18 days with two days off in the middle
- Must have excellent references
