About the Directorate:

The Aboriginal Education Directorate provides strategic cultural and policy advice on national and state policy direction in relation to Aboriginal education and contributes to the implementation of the Department’s Aboriginal Education Strategy.

About the Role:

The Aboriginal Services Engagement Officer works collaboratively with stakeholders to implement strategies from the Department of Education's Aboriginal Education Strategy, focusing on supporting the attendance, social and emotional wellbeing, and engagement in learning of Aboriginal children, young people, and their families/carers.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Actively contribute to partnership approaches with schools, preschools, and Student Support Services to implement proactive education initiatives.
  • Provide advice and support to facilitate intervention and communication for non-attendance issues.
  • Ensure fair access to services and support for Aboriginal students, working with families and communities to develop attendance strategies.
  • Participate in case conferencing and liaise with service providers for early intervention and support.
  • Contribute to evaluating and reporting on outcomes and program impact.
  • Coordinate team efforts to address issues and provide initiatives for Aboriginal children and young people.
  • Advocate for improved educational outcomes and inclusion in decision-making processes.

To be successful you will need to address the following criteria:

  • Ability to evaluate, exercise initiative, and work collaboratively to develop strategies for improving outcomes for Aboriginal students.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders to support culturally competent service provision.
  • Ability to implement strategies to support Aboriginal Strategy targets and partnership priorities, including data analysis and application.
  • Experience in working with Aboriginal communities and service agencies, utilising family and community networks.
  • Sound knowledge of cultural and contemporary issues facing Aboriginal families and communities.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A certificate 4 or higher education qualification in education, human/community services, or equivalent experience.

Special Conditions and Eligibility:

The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. The incumbent will be required to undertake RRHAN –EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education Care) Facilitator Lead (Masterclass) extended course or the online (Fundamentals) course which will be required to be updated every three years. 

In accordance with Section 56 (2) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (SA), applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.

Remuneration:

AEW4: $86,473 - $91,564 per annum (1.0 FTE), plus superannuation.
