We're seeking a dedicated After Hours Nurse Manager to oversee operational, clinical, and resource management within our dynamic healthcare environment. Reporting to the Director of Nursing and Midwifery, you'll be entrusted with the responsibility of managing designated services during After Hours periods.

After Hours Nurse Manager

About the role:

Your primary accountability will be the smooth operation of our hospital during after-hours shifts, ensuring optimal patient care delivery. This will demand exceptional leadership, analytical, and negotiation skills as you navigate various challenges. You'll collaborate closely with a diverse team, leveraging your multidisciplinary approach to enhance patient flow and resource utilisation effectively.

As an After Hours Nurse Manager, you'll thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, armed with effective communication and problem-solving abilities. Your experience in team management will be invaluable as you lead and support our staff through demanding shifts. Supported by an executive on-call team, you'll tackle complex issues to maintain the safety and efficiency of patient care around the clock.

This role demands flexibility, with a 7-day rotating roster including weekends, afternoon shifts, and night duties. Where you'll be working:

John Hunter Hospital is located within the Hunter New England Local Health District and is nestled between multiple beautiful beaches and the magnificent Hunter Valley vineyards which are just an hour’s drive away. The hospital has direct access to public transport and is close to numerous public schools and several major shopping centres.


The NSW Government has committed $835 million to redevelop the John Hunter and John Hunter Children's Hospital. The John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct project will deliver an innovative and integrated precinct with industry-leading facilities.  The project will work in collaboration with health, education, and research partners to meet the current and future needs of the greater Newcastle, Hunter New England, and Northern NSW regions.

Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse with current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications in clinical leadership or management.
  • Demonstrated management and leadership experience in complex hospital environments.
