Eastern Health is one of Melbourne’s largest public health services. We provide a range of emergency, surgical, medical and general healthcare services, including maternity, palliative care, mental health, drug and alcohol, residential care, community health and state-wide specialist services to people and communities that are diverse in culture, age, socio-economic status, population and healthcare needs.
About the role
The GEM@HOME/REHAB@HOME service is a bed substitution model which provides care to the client who still needs assistance with daily tasks for conditions associated with ageing, cognitive dysfunction and illness. Clients admitted to the program have access to diagnostic and management services including care coordination. It is an inter-professional model with a 7 day a week service delivery. The team consists of Geriatricians, Nursing, Allied Health including Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Allied Health Assistants, Pharmacy, Dieticians, Speech Pathologists. The average length of stay on the GEM and REHAB program is 2 weeks.
We are a rapidly growing service and currently undergoing expansion to 43 @home beds. The Allied Health Assistant will be expected to work closely with the Allied Health Team to carry out therapy programs as delegated by the treating team, support the use, maintenance and provision of appropriate aids, equipment and assistive technology and will require you to be flexible to meet the changing operational demands. You will be supported by the Allied Health Assistant Team Leader to learn and grow in this role.
Staff will be required to travel across the Eastern Health region to meet the needs of our patient population.
About you
To be successful in this role you will possess:
- Completion of Certificate IV (Allied Health Assistant) from a registered training organisation, or recognised equivalent inclusive of relevant discipline modules to advertised role.
- Completed a minimum of 80 hours of clinical experience
- Current Victorian Drivers Licence
- Demonstration of Professional Behaviours aligned with Eastern Health’s mission and values
- Demonstration of a human rights based approach to all aspects of work
- An understanding of confidentiality and professional boundaries
- An ability to recognise, understand and report risk with sound judgement
- Knowledge of the Allied Health Assistant role, scope of practice and supervision and delegation framework
- A strong commitment to high quality care
- The ability to work as part of a diverse team
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Well-developed computer literacy
Vaccination against infectious disease is a mandatory requirement of this role. An offer of employment is conditional on you providing evidence that you are currently vaccinated against COVID-19 with booster & Influenza, prior to commencing employment.
