About the Role

Naturally, you’ll have an interest in the care of animals, and possess strong communication skills, with the ability to enforce Council’s Local Laws, State Acts and Regulations and other legislation relevant to the position.  To work collaboratively as part of a multi-functional team within the Response Services Unit and across the broader Community Response Branch, Community Services Department and Council.  Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Manage the impounding, care and rehoming of companion animals impounded or seized by Council in accordance with the relevant Local Laws and State Legislation.
  • Carry out cleaning duties to ensure the animal pound facility is maintained in a clean, healthy and safe manner.
  • Assist the Vet in the control of animals when required.

About you

Additionally, you will have a Certificate IV in Government (Statutory Investigation and Enforcement), (Animal Management) or similar qualifications and/or experience, a current “C” class drivers licence and have the ability to undertake training courses in the microchipping of animals and animal behaviour assessment.

Our best candidate will have demonstrated ability to apply legislation, policies, standards, regulations and procedures relevant to Animal Management in our community.

You will have strong communication and customer service skills with demonstrated ability to prepare standard business correspondence and use initiative and sound judgement to guide customers and resolve problems often requiring tact, diplomacy and sensitivity.

Time management, work prioritisation and organisation skills with demonstrated ability to work both independently and interdependently to ensure work tasks are delivered on time and to a high standard is essential.

Appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre-employment medical assessment, as well as satisfactory completion of a Criminal History Check.
