The Role:

Position: Communications Specialist (Contract Role) AO5

Role Overview:
As a Communications Specialist, you will support various stages of design, construction, and maintenance projects within the Delivery Team, focusing on providing comprehensive communication services for assigned initiatives.

Your Opportunity:
Joining the clients Stakeholder Management Unit, you will play a pivotal role in fostering effective relationships for regional projects. Your responsibilities will include advising, developing, implementing, and monitoring a diverse range of timely and high-quality communication services. These services cover community engagement, stakeholder relationship management, reputation and issues management, media relations, executive correspondence, and internal communications for projects.

Key Responsibilities:
- Offer strategic communication advice and support to regional staff for stakeholder and community engagement on road infrastructure projects in the design and construction phases. Utilise appropriate communication tools and processes to develop, implement, and monitor activities.
- Research, gather information, and craft content for various project materials, including newsletters, construction notifications, webpage content, online engagement platforms, and reports.
- Coordinate and draft media statements, respond to media inquiries, and prepare speech notes and other communication materials for the Minister’s office and senior management.
- Develop and sustain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote cooperation, coordination, and enhanced communication channels.
- Ensure adherence to governance frameworks to monitor compliance with policies, legislation, regulations, standards, and procedures.
- Provide additional communication support as required.

Reporting Structure:
This position reports directly to the Senior Communications Advisor (Delivery).

Desirable Qualifications:
- A valid Class ‘C’ Driver’s Licence.
- While not mandatory, a degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or marketing is highly desirable. Accreditation from the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) in Engagement or a willingness to obtain such accreditation is preferred.
- Familiarity with the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia framework and its application to infrastructure projects is advantageous. An Infrastructure Sustainability Accredited Professional qualification is preferred but not mandatory.
- Experience in a communication or community engagement role within a major infrastructure project environment, especially in the transport or civil engineering sector, is highly regarded.
